lollapalooza 2009. they headlined for some reason.
Because in Perry's mind Jane's Addiction is the same headlining band from 1991.
When in reality they should be doing shows with The Spin Doctors and Better Than Ezra.

FWIW to the overall discussion, I know they were offered a million to do the first Coachella in '99, which Perry refused to do (not sure why) which really pissed of Perkins as he wanted the money. At least that's how the story was relayed to me. I'm guessing they made that same sum for the Coachella they did play.

I stopped paying attention once I heard the Cadillac comercial. I'll give it a pass once youre ten years retired and desperate to be heard, but not when youre in the middle of your prime.

I believe he was talking about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, not Jane's. YYY's are the ones with a Cadillac commercial ("Phenomenon") and that could be argued to be in their prime when the song was used.

you don't think bands make big money for having a song in a commercial or movie???
we have gone over this a thousand times here but personally i have no problem with it. when a rock star is pimping a product on twitter or talks about it on stage (dobel) that is going too far.
perry got a free toothbrush for this one.

no, my point was are there really that many bands doing it where u can say thats how bands earn a living now days. every commercial doesn't have a rock track playing behind it.

Sonicare probably bought Perry his new teeth.
Any band that hawks garbage with their tunes officially SUCKS as of that moment forward. End of discussion. Just sell CD's Records or Downloads and stop expecting that Alanis Morrisette, Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber money ... it ain't gonna happen in that gas station attendant clothing wearing country grunge band with violins and only a kick drum .. people will support music if it is good or if it is over hyped .. good bands never need to be over hyped.

Agreed.
No one is selling albums and no one is packing arenas.
Gotta keep going somehow. Commercials are more acceptable than they used to be.

Only about 30%
30% have a rap song
and 30% have a song written for the commercial
1/3 is alot.

Good bands used to get Rollingstone covers and MTV video plays and radio spins.
Now good bands are the ones your friend has to tell you about because none of that happens anymore. But what do you do? Do you go to the record store and purchase it for 16.99? No, you torrent it for free.
Good bands are broke bands.
You know who sells 5 million albums now? Mumford and Sons. Fuck that shit. I don't want to listen to mainstream music if that's what I am being peddled.

Other than the rare vinyl, I havent bought an album in 10 years. For that reason alone I no longer fault artists who sell their songs for commercial purposes. I cant not but their product and then get mad when they sell it someone who will buy it.

Maybe, but that's a pretty big list.

That list is tiny considering it goes back all the way to The four tops or Fats Domino. I wish they showed what products the commercials were for.
