So I've been listening to the CD into the car to & from work. And the more I listen the more I fucking hate the last song. I looked at the lyrics and they are jsut embarrassing and so lame. But the rest of the CD has grown on me a bit. I really think this CD works better as a PFP CD. Splash a little water on it, could easily have been GGU. As a JA cd it is too polished and just not raw enough, but it could be the next step for PFP. So I guess I'm looking at this as a PFP cd and it somehow makes it better.

Yes. This had crossed my mind as well. Some of the songs are extremely P4P-ish and could work as a followup to GGU:

Splash a Little Water On It
Ultimate Reason
Curiosity Kills
Twisted Tales
I'll Hit You Back

Maybe even Broken People and Irresistible Force! Almost more of a P4P sound on this album than Jane's. I'm cool with it.

Yeah, "Splash" reminds me of Wishing Well or Thick of it All. Ultimate Reason sounds like Freeway.

Can we start quoting that Terence Trent D'arby song again? That was fun.

splash is right out of GGU. It could have been on that cd & fit in well. Reminds me of seeing PFP I think it was for Howard Stern's Private Parts and Dave come out to play a few songs with them. Good show from what I can remember.

Tyler Durden wrote:I love old Stones (Exile, Sticky Fingers, Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, etc)...but Mick Jagger doesn't even come close to Jim Morrison.

"The Lizard King" started shirtless rock. He wore leather pants (everywhere). His performances incited riots. He (allegedly) exposed himself on stage. He got arrested at shows...and got his ass kicked by cops. People got naked at his shows; people danced around fires (well, according to Oliver Stone anyway...not sure if that is accurate :hehe: ). He was the first real "rock star" to front a band. Tons of times, they were referred to as "Jim Morrison and the Doors" in the public psyche. He ushered in an unprecedented, tangible danger...sex and violence (death). He heavily influenced everyone who followed him, from Iggy to Perry...and pretty much every other rock star that has ever fronted a rock band. Mick Jagger flapped his lips and shook his ass. There is absolutely no comparison.
It should be said that Jagger had a lot of attitude which went a long way. But no way was he on any level as compelling a frontman as Jim Morrison. Not only was Morrison a great singer, but he was imo, one of the top 10 greatest writers in rock n' roll and a very smart guy. Even when he fell into stoned, fat bearded Jim mode after the 60's, he was still miles above most everyone else. He didn't jump around like a maniac onstage (well, most of the time) but he was unquestionably the focus of any Doors concert. Going to a Doors show, you never knew what was going to happen right up to their last shows.

Check out this live clip from the Hollywood Bowl more than 40 years ago. That's not Perry and Jane's doing Three Days in 1990, that's Perry's spiritual daddy paving the way in 1969:

Jim Morrison had a great stage presence but I don't know...I don't see him as a great frontman.

When Mick and Perry are on they leave everyone blown away. I've met so many people who were not Janes fans, or knew nothing, and then saw Janes and they left having the time of their of thier life. That's the sign of a great front. An Enigmatic, Charismatic, Funny, wild showman. Mick and then Perry are the greatest frontmen ever.
a little fact for you regarding "mick, greatest ever". he was lost in the larger venues bands were playing in the late '60's. he was advised to go watch jim morrison with the doors and he did so.

mick is another one like axl, that has moves he does every show and it seems like a put on to me.

I'm going to do what I usually do with new albums that are just ok from artists I've followed for some time - rip maybe 3 or 4 songs into WAV files for my iPod, etc, add those tunes to the band's "favorites" playlist and file away the cd.
I feel the same way. The two good songs on there for me are IF and ETTL. There are quite a few parts of songs that I like, but that doesnt really help much cause I gotta listen to mediocre intro and verse fx to get to them

In the US my copy of GGU came with an advanced copy of TGEA. Yes I've known since 96 how this whole thing was going to play out. It surprised the shit out of everyone but not me. No but seriously to me the vibe & sound is more PFP. In particular "splash" has a GGU feel to it.

With getting TV guy in, they should just open it up to all the Porno guys instead. Even Bring back the L & R guys. Why not? - Call it "Porno for Jane".

Why are people still talking about TGEA? This thread has been jacked by a much more interesting topic. :hehe:

I like the CD. Very good effort. I would have preferred an album of 45 minutes length. One more very good song would have made this an A for me. Right now it gets B B+ from me.

I LOVE Underground and Words Right out of My Mouth. I Really Like Broken People, Hit You Back, Curiosity, lies, Ultimate...Very Good Record.
I don't really listen to Twisted or Splash.

when am I going to listen to this album? I'm already done with it. :noclue:

also, I cringe anytime I see perry talk about his creative process. I wonder if Dave & Stephen will have to stick around with Jane's - I mean, is this really a resume building album for them? "Oh yeah, let's hire the drummer from TGEA." "That guitar is so original. We need Navarro!" when I separate it from the fact that it was made by a band I love from the actual album - it just doesn't do it for me. they should have FUCK ALL to do with producers.

I changed my opinion, I like it a lot less than I thought I would.

I really like ETTL, Irresistible Force and Underground.

There are a few other good moments, but most of the songs are forgettable.

There are a lot of songs where I really like Dave's guitar work, but Perry's forgettable melodies and weak voice ruin the songs.

Also, where the hell is Perk!? They could have had a drum machine do what he is doing on most of these songs. IMHO, Perk is one of the best drummers out there, certainly one of my favourites, but none of what makes him unique is shown on this record.

Most of the snare hits are triggers anyway, so the difference is minimal.
