The future of Eric Avery with Jane's Addiction
Re: The future of Eric Avery with Jane's Addiction
I've seen Rollins spoken word twice over the last handful of years. Great shows. He knows his music if nothing else. I really enjoy his concert stories and reflections on the last 20 years or so of rock.

I've seen Rollins numerous times and have had the pleasure of meeting him twice. He's not for everyone...but the guy keeps it real. End of discussion.

Ahhh, admit it.... You don't like Henry because he rags on U2.Larry B. wrote:I think his material is too local... you Americans are amused by different type of stuff, and Rollins' might just be too American for my particular taste. Basically, the guys a bunch of phrases that are supposed to sound cool and badass and the guy's personality is like "yeah, i'm very tough and badass and i'll kick your ass... but in reality i'm actually sweet and tender... but that's because i've been constantly kicked down by life... which is why i'm so tough and badass and I don't give a shit... but I actually do...", so it's pretty childish IMO.
Re: The future of Eric Avery with Jane's Addiction
I get embarrassed for Rollins when he cuts up U2. He sounds like an ignorant jackass. Then again, I'm not into professional artists publicly dissing other professional artists; to me, it's totally lame. BTW, Rollins is the same guy who publicly ridiculed Jane's and Perry in 1990. A year later, he was worshipping Jane's, kissing Perry's ass, and thanking him for launching his career into the big leagues.Pandemonium wrote:Ahhh, admit it.... The worst is when Rollins criticized U2 for taking a year to make Achtung Baby. He said that anyone who takes a year to make an album is an idiot. Meanwhile, Achtung Baby is one of the best albums ever made, period. I think it's the best album of the 90s (over Nevermind, OK Computer, Grace, etc...all great albums, mind you)...and I'd rather listen to it on a deserted island than Nothing's Shocking or Ritual.
And as for bagging on Edge, this is one of the best guitar solos ever:
Re: The future of Eric Avery with Jane's Addiction
An incredible performance by U2 and another amazing solo by Edge. I seriously feel sorry for people that hate U2.
Re: The future of Eric Avery with Jane's Addiction
U2 has never really done it for me. They're a perfectly acceptable band with a handful of great songs, but to prefer anything they've done over RDLH or NS is crazy to me. Those are albums to start revolutions to.
Re: The future of Eric Avery with Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction is like that girl you have the best and wildest sex of your life with. You'd love to fuck her forever but she's unpredictable, unreliable, and just too damn crazy. U2 is like the girl you end up marrying and can trust raising normal, responsible kids with.hokahey wrote:U2 has never really done it for me. Weird show but he's still got it.

didn´t know that. What a punk.Tyler Durden wrote:BTW, Rollins is the same guy who publicly ridiculed Jane's and Perry in 1990. A year later, he was worshipping Jane's, kissing Perry's ass, and thanking him for launching his career into the big leagues.

I dig Rollins. Yea, he's a bit hard on any music that doesn't flat out rock, and sometimes it's unwarranted, but he's a enthralling and interesting character. He's got some real good and relate-able life stories, which I enjoy hearing.

for doing that I mean. I still like a lot of his music a lot. Get Some Go Again fx is a great albumMatz wrote:didn´t know that. What's really sad is it's on one of his spoken word DVDs. To his credit, he doesn't try to hide it.Matz wrote:didn´t know that. This is from the back of the DVD:
Hello. I wanted to tell you a few things about this DVD. Many years ago, my friend Joe Cole and I wanted to release a series of live videos of my talking shows. Joe would shoot, he and our friend Modi would edit and produce and I would release them on my label. That was the plan at least. Joe was killed in 1991 and our grand scheme abruptly ceased. We did get some shows in the can before Joe departed and over the years, I wanted to get some of the material out and the DVD seemed like the perfect medium so we dug out the tapes and got to work. It was interesting to watch such a young version of myself. On this night, I was surprised at what I said about Jane’s Addiction, how I was unable to understand what their appeal was because they ended up being one of my favorite bands of all time. It was true though, I didn’t get it at first. How things change! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this slice of ancient history. We will go through these archival tapes to see if there’s more content that we think merits your time and expenditure and bring it to your attention when we can. Thank you for checking this out. -- Henry

As I said 11 years ago…never say “never” with this band.
