Re: Next Album
There's some weird shit in that article...
"For the better part of the last two months Perry Farrell has been confined to a bed in his Los Angeles home, the result of recent surgery."
Obviously at least the timeline is wrong, as he seemed physically fine during the LA show not even a month ago. But to be laid up for at least a month indicates he had something pretty substantial done.
"Farrell also admits The Great Escape Artist – the band's first studio album in nearly a decade – was not as well-received as he had hoped (it sold under 24,000 copies it's first week). "It didn't make a big enough splash," he says. "If it would have made a bigger splash I would have continued [its themes]." One element that he does say he wants to carry over from TGEA is its emphasis on theatricality in the live setting"
Well, when the idea of "theatricality" is swap meet detritus like a big stuffed bear and a rocking chair on stage and the usual dancing chicks, you'll have to forgive the audience for not being impressed with the theatricality of the production. The Relapse tour... now that was a stage production... Even the opening "Kettle Whistle" from 2001, that was memorable.
The next record, this band needs to play to it's strengths, which is the live musicianship they bring to the table. Jam the songs in a live room, bring back the feel of an actual group of guys playing music, don't crush every bit of organic feel out of the tunes working them to death with piled on samples, loops and shit. Last album, Dave was bragging about using all this vintage gear, Billy Duffy's Gretsch and so on - for the way the finished album came out, he could have gotten away with playing a Hohner Strat knock-off recorded straight into a PC's soundcard.

Re: Next Album
yeah, I agree. He also says he's written 60 songs in a couple of weeks. That's so fuckin not true, well maybe but then the 57 of them suck like you wouldn't believe, I'm sure

They should listen to Hard Charger for inspiration.

It's a sad day when a new Jane's record is met with total, utter indifference, with no strong opinion either way about it. EVEN more so than TGEA. Way to go Perry

Re: Next Album
i was so excited when strays was coming out. it was the complete opposite with TGEA. i doubt i have listened to it more than twice. i could care less if they ever make another album. weird how things change.Tyler Durden wrote:Exactly. Re: Next Album
Maybe instead of bringing in someone to help write the music, they should bring someone in to help write the lyrics.
It worked for Aerosmith.

Re: Next Album
If it was 1999 and Perry was saying he had written close to 60 new songs, people would have lost their minds. Given the amount of bullshit drama and mediocre music generated from the Jane's camp over the past 12 or so years, the die hards feel nothing but indifference over this latest news. Sad.

Fairy tales. just what I want from a Jane's record. Didn't perry tweet some lyrics a few years ago from embrace the darkness that had the boogie man in them? Maybe we'll finally hear that song. Sans Eric's contributions to it, of course.
Edit: here's the tweet: https://mobile.twitter.com/perryfarrell ... 5188283683. Yikes.

Re: Next Album
No, it didn't. Some of the stuff on Permanent Vacation, Pump and Get A Grip was decent, if nothing close to what they did in the mid 70's at their (coked out) peak, but just about everything they've done since the beginning of the 90's as the outside help increased has been horrible pop garbage including the new album which is the worst yet.Six7Six7 wrote:Maybe instead of bringing in someone to help write the music, they should bring someone in to help write the lyrics.

I'll bet the next Jane's album will be called 'Dobel Tequila.'
Re: Next Album
Perry should call up Trent and beg for a second chance. Trent seems to be busy doing not super interesting things for the moment anyway

Re: Next Album
I actually tried to ask Trent on reddit recently about those sessions and songs, but it was overlooked. If he had answered this board would have gone bonkers. Also, splash a little dobel on it.Matz wrote:Perry should call up Trent and beg for a second chance. Trent seems to be busy doing not super interesting things for the moment anyway

It was only a partial troll.Pandemonium wrote:Worst. Troll. Ever.Six7Six7 wrote:Apparently someone is forgetting the best song of the last decade
I'd rather listen to that song than anything Jane's has put out in the last decade.
And that song shifted millions of units off store shelves.
Perry needs someone to write his songs for him. And if he could get someone to sing them for him it would be even better. But for now, just a songwriter will do.
