Official statement says that PF was unable to create any kind of sound vocally... i would say that that definitely means Leeds is out, and probably the London show on Tuesday. Don't mind admitting that i'll be proper gutted.

at least dave had the balls to go out there :noclue:
Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro came on stage ten minutes after the band were due to start to announce that Jane's Addiction will not be performing due to issues with Farrell's voice, which he's apparently lost.

Those on Twitter took photographs of the Radio 1/NME Tent screens announcing the news. Click to see the photo from @Old_Major_Mem.

Fans started booing and showing their dislike for the announcement immediately and quickly left to see The Strokes, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and The Midnight Beast who headline the other stages at Reading Festival 2011 tonight.

It's unclear whether Jane's Addiction will fulfill their commitment to play Leeds Festival 2011 tomorrow evening, an official statement is expected from the band and festival promoter, Festival Republic, shortly.

Paul Sydenham from Gillingham, Kent said: "I didn't believe it at first, I thought it was a joke. He said he loved us and that Farrell had a sore throat, and that they'd be back. Then it sunk in that he meant it and they weren't going to play. We're really dissapointed. Everyone was unhappy in there and now I've got to go and watch The Strokes."

Farrell's wife Etty Lau Farrell posted on Twitter earlier, saying that she was travelling with the band and Perry was taking medication, she posted this picture of the singer.

She then confirmed the singer had to cancel the show tweeting: "I am so sorry. The Reading curse for @perryfarrell..."

Fans have already started airing their disappointment on Twitter with Aydogan Mehmet (@Old_Major_Mem) tweeting: "#JanesAddiction - can't understand why they couldn't have come out, Perry conducts the crowd & we sing our hearts out".

Another user on the social networking site, ModerateRock wrote: "Jane's frontman has 'lost his voice' apparently. Unhappy crowd boo. A lot. Nothing changes."

Nice find, creep. :thumb:

Interesting that Dave confirms that there will be songs on the album that they wrote with Duff.

This sort of thing happens to every band at some point. It's how they make up for the missed show(s) at some point in the future is what really counts.

I wonder who eats the cost of the band, their entourage and their gear being flown there and back - Janes, the festival promoters or an insurance company for either faction?

"we used the studio as an instrument"

Do you know how many good albums have been done that way?

NONE.

Although i read an interview where Flaming Lips said they kind of operate in the same way. But the difference is that the Flaming Lips are an art rock band, and Jane's Addiction USED TO BE an art rock band.

So.... Dave says that writing with Duff was a blast.

But Perry said his ideas and the band ideas didn't really gel.

Is Dave being a nice guy again, or is Perry just the only one who had a problem with Duff?

A few at Reading are tweeting they pulled because the tent was less than a third full. Don't really believe that. I'd have been gutted. Hopefully he'll be OK for you lot going to KOKO.

I think that what I said up there makes sense if that is true. If the tent wasn't filled up then he just said "fuck it"

no way he did that. do you really think he set it up early in the day with etty tweeting about his voice and tweeting the pic of him with medicine before they knew how many people were there? perry can be a dick but not that much of a dick.

Well I was just thinking about his interview being pissed off that they were playing a tent and not the main stage. Either way he probably is sick but I know he still believes he's a rockstar but he's 15 years past his creative prime and has failed to accept that. Sad though because I loved the direction of Good God's Urge.

I agree. I've seen Perry rise to the occasion every time there's a small or otherwise shitty crowd. I've never seen anything to suggest that he wouldn't perform for that reason.

Leeds now cancelled. Dave just said on twitter that they're taking it day by day, so no decision on Koko yet.

Funny that Dave is the one who has been made the spokesperson.

What... Perry can't take to his own twitter? Etty can't announce it?

It is one of the biggest cliches in recording. But sometimes it's true. I do it. And there have been great records where that was at least partially the case: Dark Side of the Moon, Sgt. Pepper's, Kid A...The difference is that, there were also great fucking songs to justify the experimentation. Judging from the first two tracks off of TGEA, I'm not convinced that this is the case.

The Duff thing is interesting. Wasn't there an episode of Dark Matter where Dave said they scrapped the Duff stuff and started fresh "with a new team?" My guess -- like whoever else posted this theory, forget -- is that they were up against Capitol's deadline and had mostly shit to show for it. Then it was like, bring on the Duff tunes. The fact that Dave "just talked to him" is probably about royalty splits, not being best buds.
