New Jane's album "Embrace the Darkness" coming 2014/2015?
Hi.
I cant seem to loose my interest for Jane's Addiction. It is honestly the only band I wait for to release new music other than the Peppers (and god knows that these guys will release alot more, it just won't be any good withouth frusciante). I still have hope that this long awaited continuation of Ritual is around the corner with Jane's. I have always felt that both Strays and TGEA (as well as SYTBS and Deconstruction and DTTAH) had the pieces that could be made into Jane's 1.0 quality music, they just weren't put together well enough. But I believe these guys still have it in them. The instrumentals from "inside the studio" clips are proof enough for me.
I know there will be a short distraction now before more Jane's Addiction activity, in the form of the Porno for Pyros minitour and new songs, but this is short lived by definition as this band's reach is 10x smaller than Jane's and that is a generous approximation I believe. I don't believe for a second Perry would give it more than 3 to 4 months of his time total.
I've long believed Perry to be extremely externally driven. The fanbase was what I believe took the place of Casey as Perry's "art adviser" position in the 90s. I believe since Sonny left the community there hasn't been enough push on the fans side to show Perry the way. Even if through the way of criticism and sneering and jeering and saying he sucks and should do something better. I plan to start a more planned effort of this sort and in ways force Perry's hand in that matter. It will even include the creation of a website and controlled leaks to the music press starting in the fall.
Could those of you that still have interest in new Jane's Addiction output join me in gently hassling Perry (and/or Dave/Steven/Etty :P) through the available internet channels about the new album, new songs, how long do we have to wait, please release new music, "perry what about these 60 songs" and the like.....
We have all seen in the past that these guys are extremely receptive (in the long term) to the fans suggestions. I know for sure that we as fanbase members can make the new material come sooner rather than later (think 2014 or early 2015 rather than 2016/2017). We all know from various sources (example sources at the end), they have enough new material to not take several years to write another album. More like several weeks for each song to finish it and refine from the rough draft.
Please post in this thread not only opinions but links to all news articles and the bands communications regarding new material, song titles etc. that will help in this endevour.
As for those of you who have given up, well I guess you will have more lolcontent in the future, because I truly believe this small movement wll succede and we will see at least several new Jane's albums in the next several years.

Re: New Jane's album "Embrace the Darkness" coming 2014/2015
Perry should get his 60 new songs and break them up into 5 albums, book time with Eric, Flea, Martyn, Watt & Chaney and hum 12 basslinesto each then bring Dave & Perk into each session once the bass work is done to complete 5 new "Jane's Addiction" albums....

Re: New Jane's album "Embrace the Darkness" coming 2014/2015
janesbiggestfan, i admire your passion and optimism. you are trying to take action with the hope that the band will notice and maybe listen to fan suggestions -
personally, i do not see more than 1 more JA album release. if one is to look at the band's previous record release history, it doesn't look all that promising to turn 60 songs into albums. even if it were to happen, say 1 album every 2 years, PF will be in his mid 60s. i don't think his voice is going to hold out that long.
as for trying new directions with the music, i am all for that, but thus far it seems more like the band is just trying to cater to what they think will sell. that's fine, but the result is some soulless and unmemorable music.
anyway, good luck with your campaign.

There is nothing left that they can do that won't be a disappointment and a further tarnishing of their legacy. The best we can hope for is something less than comprehensively embarrassing.
But we're still here, still talking. So we have to be honest with ourselves about the nature of our fandom, too: whatever they do, awful or marginally not awful, we'll pay attention.
This is one of the longest grieving processes I've ever experienced individually, or as a community. The reason I think this is the case is because it didn't have to be this way.

I honestly spend more time in the other sections of the board, I pretty much only listen to the first 3 records and musically the other stuff just doesn't exist for me. I haven't even made it all the way thru TGEA.

Re: New Jane's album "Embrace the Darkness" coming 2014/2015
I like the other sections to read sometimes, but for me there isn't enough shared experience, affectation or intellectual orientation to otherwise establish a bond beyond our main thing. But I mostly lurked at Xiola and 1%, so I realize I don't have the history that a lot of you folks share. At this point, you're solid without the Jane's hook. Which is cool, but not why I come here.
Re: New Jane's album "Embrace the Darkness" coming 2014/2015
I find this so absurd. What is arguably your favorite band of all time puts out an album that you've talked and read about on a fan community board quite a bit leading up to its release, and yet you still can't take the time to at least make it all the way through the album ONCE to make your own conclusion.Juana wrote:I haven't even made it all the way thru TGEA.
It's so absolutely insane to me that some of you haven't even HEARD all of TGEA. So crazy. Jane's is easily one of your favorite bands of all time, who has an incredibly small catalog, and yet you haven't even heard their latest album but continue to come to a community board for that band.
Can't find the time to make it through a 40 minute album?

I'd say they were the comic sans of rock, but that would mean more people then us would have to be familiar enough with them to make fun.
Still, well played.

That should be a toilet plunger instead of the last spoon.kv wrote:CaseyContrarian wrote:There is nothing left that they can do that won't be a disappointment and a further tarnishing of their legacy.

No the first 3 tracks sucked and I skimmed the others. I like Nothings Shocking which is one of my favorite records ever. I grew up surfing to that record. I saw them live for the first time in '97 on relapse but I have not liked anything that was put out except "Price I Pay" and the Hyperleak version of "True Nature". I gave it the best shot I could but they do not care to make music that brings me in, so why should I invest that 40 minutes when I know I will be disappointed?Kajicat wrote:I find this so absurd. I could instead listen to something that intrigues me and doesn't remind me that a band that made 3 great records, has fallen so far.

Yep, that's pretty much it for me too.Juana wrote:I honestly spend more time in the other sections of the board, I pretty much only listen to the first 3 records and musically the other stuff just doesn't exist for me. I haven't even made it all the way thru TGEA.
And after seeing those recent live clips ... Doesn't really tempt me to dig up TGEA again, or hope that they will put out a new album, or going to see them live.
Re: New Jane's album "Embrace the Darkness" coming 2014/2015
Red: You could easily listen to a 40 minute album in a long car drive if you drive, or if you commute to work either on your car stereo or on your iPod. 40 minutes of music ain't hard to cover. Heck, put it on in the background as you lounge around on the computer on this very website. You already know you're going to be disappointed - might as well at least hear why and build your own personal conclusion.Juana wrote:No the first 3 tracks sucked and I skimmed the others. Blue: ANR and Xiola served as a constant reminder of how far this band and its members have fallen as writers and humans in general, so what's the big difference? This place does more daily reminding of how far Jane's has fallen than you listening to TGEA all the way through once ever will. I say make it through the album at least once, just so you're not parroting the others on this board.
OK I'll stop now...

I for one don’t want Parody Farrell to hang up Jane’s.Juana wrote:The sad thing is at one point we were all like the OP now we just want Perry and co to hang it up..
Hanging up Jane’s at this point isn't going to change anything. You can’t unring a bell. Even if he did bend to majority wish and put the band in the ground, we’d still rave about NS and Ritual and completely shit on everything he’s done with or without Jane’s for the last 15 years.
Anyone who thinks Eric wasn’t the creative lynchpin of this band needs their head examined. Everything good about this band happened while he was a member of it. The NINJA shows were the last gasp for what Jane’s was truly capable of being, even if Parody and his dopey wife did everything possible to capsize that run as well.
At this point, the hilarity of their output and live shows overshadows the band itself. I honestly can’t wait to see how they’ll humiliate themselves next.
Re: New Jane's album "Embrace the Darkness" coming 2014/2015
no the relapse shows were, at the NINJA shows they tuned down as well and it sounded horrible as it always does. The fact that Eric played bass didn't fuckin change that for a secondNYRexall wrote:Juana wrote:The NINJA shows were the last gasp for what Jane’s was truly capable of being,
