the song was an old demo that needed a sax track so they asked maceo parker

maceo agreed for a set fee but while recording he was like ..

"what the fuck is this .. is this song about me? .. are you saying 'i'm your cat'? (like the jazz kinda term for fellow buddy musican) i aint your cat man what the fuck is this song"

when he figured out the song had his name in it .. even tho it wasn't about him .. he doubled his price .. which perky said they paid .. maceo got kind of offended .. like "i didn't sign up for this shit and what is this song you wrote about me" even tho it is about perrys feline cat .. but they smoothed it over in the end .. i really like maceos playing in general .. the live version of this tune is great too .. with the chick singing ..

And lest we all forget...Song Yet To Be Sung was a great album imho...he tread some new ground, the spiritual aspect actually came across sincerely and it he managed to pull Pete, Stephen, Dave and many others into the fold and made something that is totally unique to anything else he did before or since...I used to play that for a lot of people who didn't have a clue who Perry was and a lot of them liked it...

On topic...I think the topic is silly...they're both kinda crappy for different reasons...

I think SYTBS is pretty great. Of course, Good God's Urge is a A+ album to me, so SYTBS can easily be held in high regard in my eyes since they have a similar spiritual/earthy vibe. SYTBS was on in the background constantly when I read through the Scar Tissue book.
