actually I do have a couple extra decks .. they are not great but i will throw one in for an extra $50 .. only because it will cost money to ship cuz it is big .. and only if someone wants ALL 60 tapes .. (u can probably find a deck at your local lawn sale for much less) .. but i get it .. nobody listens to tapes anymore but me .. even tho most of the soundboards and other shows from the Eric era CAME from tapes before they ended up on cd ..

personally i love tapes .. there is nothing like a maxell xl2 .. i have had so many shows burned on disk and the disks are now unplayable .. just a crap technology .. mp3s are absolute garbage .. tapes never let me down .. they still work great .. i still have tapes from high school that run perfect .. nobody even cares if u bring a tape deck to concerts anymore .. i've taped lots of great shows with my little radio shack hand held ..

anyway it's just too much time to transfer 540 hours worth of vintage janes to cd .. and still have people want them for free .. i think the price is fair for what it is

It's all supply and demand.

Supply: 1

Demand: 0

If the demand would be, let's say 100, you'd be sitting on a goldmine. Alas!

You could try ebay

Seriously. Wouldn't this collection have value with someone associated with making money off of Jane's/ Rhino Records?

The only way this would have value is if Jane's Addiction was a touring juggernaut who played 3 hours a night, had 15 albums, and had created a solid following of their bootlegs.

Pearl Jam got their own Sirius Station because they had those qualities.

So did Springsteen.

So did Tom Petty.

So did the Grateful Dead.

So did Pink Floyd.

Etc...

Jane's only has 2 albums anyone wants to hear, and only plays the same 10 songs from those albums. You could never make a boxset out of bootlegs because they sound shitty, and you could never even get the bootleg crowd on board with a radio channel because every show is exactly the same.

Jane's monotony fucked them.

Nah man, it's cool--I like tapes, too. There's a quality, sound and spirit. Probably just nostalgia, but fuck it. Can't get nostalgic about an MP3.

I've got an 8 track if anyone wants it.

You can play it on the this stereo console with fake wood. It's free for anyone who wants it, just have to pay for shipping.

I have a few mp3s that I get nostalgic about. I'd love to go back to 1998 and listen to that "Big Sur" mp3 someone from the Jane's community shared with me via ICQ. The sound quality must've been really low, but I played that mp3 for ages before I bought the Deconstruction CD.

The 4-track demo of Kettle Whistle is another mp3 I feel nostalgic about. And Rhimorse.

The great appeal of cassettes for me was that you could tape a show before digital recorders and phone/cameras ... The crowd noise always has that live feeling that makes me all warm inside ... I mean hearin madison square garden sing jane says live was magical and its like an audio photo souvenier that i taped it and can get that feeling all over again ... Lastly i always searched for the next pigs in zen rant or wacky rare occurance such as bloodrag in canada or the riot at philly or other shows i attended but did not tape ... You could not find that stuff on anything other than cassette .. And if it was later digitized it usually came from a soundboard TAPE. ... In fact most great music that was later released on cd was sourced from analog tape ... It took many years before cd sound even matched cassette ... Prince fans still bitch about how bad sign o the times sounds on cd compared to vinyl and cassette releases the converion to cd lost all the low end .. Analog is tha diggy diggy dang alang a long ling long!

No, they're not. It's a hipster trend that won't last.

I ran analog until '08, and am in the process of transferring about 3K cassettes, my masters, and good shows that I traded for.
