It's a little wonder that Etty allows Perry to do this... Gift is kind of a celebration of the love between Perry and Casey. How generous of Etty.

She'll sing a song onstage with him before the show. You just watch.Eric B. wrote:It's a little wonder that Etty allows Perry to do this... Gift is kind of a celebration of the love between Perry and Casey. How generous of Etty.

It's probably a Redux edition, where all instances of Casey have been digitally replaced with Etty and every needle has been digitally replaced with Dobel.

This, sadly, would not surprise me at all.

Gift is terrible. Except for the opening drug score scene and Stop. I remember being so excited for it to come out too. At that time in 92/93 Perry was still a mystery. Then Gift came out and it was pretty embarrassing to show people!
Perry/Casey spent $500K of Warners Brothers money on that film too!

Gift was only cool because Jane's Addiction was involved, period... it's right up there with the Ramones in Rock and Roll High School and that crappy movie KISS tried to put out...
Re: Gift screening this month w/Perry
I haven't seen it in years, but in my drug using days I loved it. So I think I'll just leave that memory in tact.

Probably my favorite film that Perry acted in.

Saw this advertised on Facebook and there is a review of gift. The review tries to elevate Gift to something artful. It wasn't. It was amateurish, and definitely a portent of what we were all soon to know. Perry was not all that. Even back then.

I couldn't get through it back when I thought JA were a gift.

Re: Gift screening this month w/Perry
I think there were only 3 or 4 scenes that I liked from that "art" "movie":
The first one cause that's the show I missed since I didn't know who they were when they played here. The CG's shots with all the extra scenes in Catemaco and when Perry fixes Casey with flowers and the cherubs. Oh yes the ants scene with Froosh's music and the "Don't Call me Nigger, Whitey" vid.
I think I was the only one of my friends who actually liked this shit and they just indulged me by telling me that it was great. I bet no one saw it even the people I lent it to

I remember forcing my band mates to watch it when we shared a flat together.
I explained at the end that the title (according to Casey) stood for god is forever there. "god it's fucking terrible" was the singers response!

I loved the surfing scene. It took me months to figure out where it was. It was in my own back yard. It turns out i surfed it quite a bit before the film was released. I guess i didn't really recognize it because of the angles it was shot. I loved gift, and even went to the premiere at the Sunset 5 where Casey had a question and answer, that was awkward and uncomfotable. Poor Casey, never got the respect she deserved for her contribution to Jane's.
