I've just heard the multitrack for Mountain Song (thank you, PG!)... if you haven't done yet, download it and listen. By listening to the individual tracks, you might just notice the artistic difference of the Jane's of yore and the one from today. So many layers, so very carefully crafted and very well located. Today: no risks, no experiments. Nothing "weird". Boo hoo.

its a bit funky, though. it might be due to the original mixing, but the vocal track has some guitar and piano mixed in, i haven't checked it out in a while. still, just listening to the vocals in a dark room, really loud, used to give me chills. same for the "space oddity" one

I'm thinking it was because of some kind of 4-track limit at the time... basically, you had to work with limited resources, so some shit simply had to be mixed, there was no other way around.

It was pretty cool nevertheless, you can really tell the difference between that and an mp3. To me, it has never been so clear.

I wanted to thank Pillar Girl not just for the VH download link but also for suggesting Reaper. I downloaded that software and like it enough I'm going to buy a licensed version. Previously, I've stuck with Soundforge as my audio editing and converting needs are pretty basic, plus it works good with Sony's video editing software but it doesn't directly open multi-track mogg files so this is a big step up.

as for remixing tracks, there's tons out there, of course pro tools, you can
also use Sony Acid, trakaxPC, Flstudio, im sure others will post their personal favorites as well.

That's a pretty comprehensive site that in addition to hosting instrumental "play along" tracks, is also a useful reference tool to listing about 95% of all the multi-track .MOGG files are out there.

BTW, I was surprised there are .MOGG multi-tracks for NIN's Wish, Burn, Last, March Of The Pigs and The Perfect Drug from the pre-Fragile era.
