New JA in Dobel ad?
Re: New JA in Dobel ad?
Well that's clearly the band. Perk reprising his Mt Song rhythm there. Chaney mimicking an EA opening bass line. Dave playing rawk guitar as he does these days. Perry channeling Bono.
Better than a lot of TGEA. But still sounds like a band trying to sound like Jane's Addiction.

Re: New JA in Dobel ad?
On further listening, it gets worse. Dave even does the chirpy bird sound thing with his guitar that he does in Mt. Song. Really weird that they're ripping off their own song.
Re: New JA in Dobel ad?
sounds better than anything on tgea??? goofy perry lyrics though..."tell me what all this hubbub is about"
i'm sure it's not new since they never get together. it's probably a tgea throwaway.

On my way home from work, I was listening to the rock station here in philly. They play about 60% do the dew buttrock, and 40% tolerable to good stuff. This is a song by a newer band they played today:
Pretty shitty, right?. So when I get home I was telling my brother (who also posts here) about this shitty new "bringing the rawk back" band I just heard on the radio. Then I logged on and saw this thread. I called him over and gave him headphones without showing him what was on the screen. His response: "oh, is this that shitty band you were telling me about?"

sounds better than Another Soulmate! Although I probably liked that the first time I heard it too.

Dobel Marketing Meeting, New York City, 2015
Executive: "Gentlemen, we need completely generic "rock and roll" music to use in our newest commercial. If only we could lock down a band without any discernible identity or distinct sonic trademarks to perform it!"
Employee: "Sir, I believe our spokesman, Perry Farrell, was quite the rock-roller in his day. Maybe his band could do it... I think they were called 'Jame's Addiction'."
Executive: "Well remember, if his band is going to do it, we must make sure they have no edge whatsoever. How can we be sure they can deliver?"
*Perry Farrell thrusts open the conference room doors"
"I have the band on Skype. Give us three hours."

"Leap, then look."
"Be defiant, not defined."
How the advertisers write this shit with a straight face (do they?) is beyond me; the marketing is fantastic- all you have to do is know your audience.
If you were to guess, how much do you think Jane$ makes selling this piss?

Jesus christ. There are still new bands latching on to the neo-grunge thing?Noonesshocking wrote:On my way home from work, I was listening to the rock station here in philly. They play about 60% do the dew buttrock, and 40% tolerable to good stuff. This is a song by a newer band they played today:

I don't think that's the band at all. I'd say it's Perry and some musicians, clearly trying to imitate the sounds and textures of Jane's. The 'touch' of the drums and the drumming pattern don't sound like something Perkins would do, and the texture of the guitar doesn't have Dave's signature sound. But yes, it's a reprise of Mountain Song, it's a mimic of EA's opening bass line and it's a generic rawk guitar while Perry does his Bono.hokahey wrote:Well that's clearly the band. I don't hear anything to indicate anybody but Perry's involved.
It would probably say Perry Ferrell and Jane's Addiction on the little corner blurb if it were also.
Perry doesn't do much to dispel certain stereotypes, involving his heritage, wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more.

Re: New JA in Dobel ad?
Sounds like Perry wrote the Dobel slogan too! "Masters, makers, rule breakers" sound like modern day Perry lyrics.
Re: New JA in Dobel ad?
Yeah I guess it could be musicians imitating Janes, but this seems to be a fully fleshed out song.

Why? I don't hear anything session musicians couldn't put together in an hour.hokahey wrote: but this seems to be a fully fleshed out song.

Re: New JA in Dobel ad?
I agree. I think it's telling the only other guy you see is the drummer disguising his face with a gas mask (appropriate considering the jingle stinks) or a silly wolf head. "Is it Perkins embarrassed to be there or is it some scrub trying to give the impression he's (Jane's) drummer?"Larry B. wrote:I don't think that's the band at all. And yeah, Perry is going full tilt trying to be a Bono. The "Making Of" clip of the video is hilarious.
