Woah, woah, woah, hold on there - RDLH is the best cover by far.
My favorite rock album cover of all time.
But... no one's heads were on fire on that one.

Probably Perry wanting to earn some pocket money before performing at the shoe store next door.

Considering what I'd prepared myself for...
Goddamn... I am shocked... and pleased. It LOOKS and FEELS like a natural fit with the originals. Sure, it's updated with the computer... but you know what? It works... it's a little douchy that Etty's ass made it in there... but I agree that it's sort of a running tribute...
I really can't say anything negative about it. To me, this is a massive, unexpected leap in the right direction.

i just realized...
he's not hugging himself.
i think it's meant to be symbolic of a straight jacket. Hence "the great escape artist", hence the pictures taken at Houdini's mansion.
is he trying to say he feels trapped?

Good catch. I think you're right about it being symbolic of a straight jacket.

It does remind me of a Primus cover. Not really tripping any homophobe wires, but I do think it's ugly as sin and utterly artless.

I had thought that pretty much right when I saw it...but why wouldn't he just have a straight jacket on then?

He feels trapped by his own narcissism.

another thought...
it's the ROOM that he is trapped in. The room IS his straight jacket.

Yeah, it does give off a Primus vibe.
that was my first thought too. it's a better primus album cover than the current primus album cover.

Maybe it's a commentary on how he lives his life. Stuck in hotel rooms with nothing but a bed, a desk, a book and some wine.
All he wants to do is get out and party.

i love that we've already spent 4 pages analyzing it, and it hasn't even hit the front of ja.org OR their message board yet.

I believe it's a beer bottle on his desk.
Isn't Sonny a big beer connoisseur?

i don't know. look at its proportion next to the book. It's either a 40, or a wine bottle. haha

The proportion is WAY off...but if you zoom in on it on the Amazon site, it's pretty clear that it's a beer bottle.

Maybe it's all a metaphor regarding the dangers of the Large Hadron Collider and its impact on the ozone layer and the chupacabras.
