GGU is the superior album all around as far as I'm concerned. It was Perry's true follow-up to Ritual, and his last GREAT album.
Re: Album Cover
ggu bores the shit out of me. tahitian moon is the only good song on it. p4p was way better. i'm right and you guys are wrong.
Re: Album Cover
1. The Good God's Urge album cover is infinitely better than the first P4P album cover.
2. The Good God's Urge album cover is quite possibly my favorite album cover of all time.
3. Good God's Urge is easily one of my favorite albums of all time.
This is all true.

Re: Album Cover
I like the album cover a lot actually - It's way better than Strays. Definitely not even remotely what I was expecting, and it successfully got an audible "...the hell is that?" out of me.
And it instantly made me think of the P4P album cover, which I've always been fond of.
I'm also surprisingly curious to see the rest of the booklet now, and up until now I had pretty much zero interest due to Strays' nonexistent art direction.

Re: Album Cover
I honestly like GGU more mainly because of the memories I made while listening to that album. It reminds me of a lot of fun in my life and the music right now still sounds to me what I think Perry and Pete should be doing together. To each their own though.creep wrote:ggu bores the shit out of me. tahitian moon is the only good song on it. p4p was way better. i'm right and you guys are wrong.
As for the new cover it has grown on me a lot since I first saw it and to me is pretty cool.

We saw a tweet or whatever where perry said he was "waiting for the artwork to come back." Come back from where?
Did I miss the bit where it's definite that he created this art?
Are we just assuming he created this?

Re: Album Cover
It likely means coming back from the record label's art dept either as a printer's proof or from the package production company itself for Perry and the band to approve. However, considering it's already on Amazon's website, that should be a done deal by now. Maybe he's waiting for the finished product. Which means the cd (and record if it's being released on vinyl) has been pressed and a leak could come within the next week or so.nausearockpig wrote:We saw a tweet or whatever where perry said he was "waiting for the artwork to come back." My guess is Perry (and whoever was no doubt helping him) put that sculpture together, then photographed it and did that Photoshop magic that Perry/Etty are so well known for and gave the finished file to Capitol's graphics dept to incorporate into a CD/Record cover and booklet. If all the album info (lyrics, credits, etc) is already organized and a general layout and design style has been agreed upon, a graphic designer can put the art for all physical releases together for output to printing press in just a day or two if they have their shit together and there's little need for any changes. The band and record company approves or makes corrections which may go back and forth over days or weeks depending on what's involved and once the art is approved, off to the printer and manufacturer it goes where the packaging is produced.

BTW, everyone is saying how big Perry's package looks... I don't know what you guys are packing but that thing just looks normal...
See what I did there? Hadn't seen a hilarious comment like that one yet so there you go: you're welcome!
Re: Album Cover
I doubt Perry's hand touched a ounce of clay. I am sure his input on this cover art was "this is what I want" and some art dept lackey did the rest.Pandemonium wrote:It likely means coming back from the record label's art dept either as a printer's proof or from the package production company itself for Perry and the band to approve. Perry is as much a "artist" in the last 15 years as I am a runway model at fashion week.

Nobody is saying that that package's size isn't within the regular measurements of the male population... it's just that most of us actually know what Perry is packing and think it's hilarious that he felt the need to enhance his 2 incher.nausearockpig wrote:BTW, everyone is saying how big Perry's package looks... That's pretty clearly Perry's work.

Re: Album Cover
I am pretty sure this is all perry too .. maybe his family helped .. looks a lot like the ritual cover .. has a 3D feel but I am thinking its like a big thick canvas like on ritual .. there is a lot of detail .. a little strange .. not as beautiful as ritual but definately has beauty in it and its kinda cool all in all .. good gods is a great record has 5 or 6 classics on it .. kim .. bali eyes .. good gods .. dogs rule .. i like those as good as any janes tune .. the acoustic pyros at the end of the band were outstanding .. made me like their tunes even more .. 100 ways is pretty good too .. if that song was new and on the new janes record i am pretty sure everyone would love it .. i guess if iron maiden can sell more t shirts than records than i can like the art way better than i like the new songs .. which is the case and i am still a little pissed about that .. but the art is very cool .. i like the mis matched fonts too .. but i think the apostrophe needs to be there and i finger needs to be removed from the hand on the left.

I always felt Porpoise Head was the best song on GGU. Dogs Rule the Night is great too. But honestly, I love everything Perry pre-SYTBS.
Re: Album Cover
Absolutely. I know one or two people here don't like it, and that always confounds me. It's a classic, and it could have been on a third JA studio album. I was instantly in love with it when they broke it out at Woodstock. It took me a little bit to get accustomed to the studio version, but I love it as well. The live thing is a different animal, especially the chorus, which eventually became gigantic, whereas the studio version is pretty compact.imail724 wrote:I always felt Porpoise Head was the best song on GGU.
