Classic Girl in Fear the Walking Dead

#1 Post by rickpoet » Mon Sep 28, 2015 12:26 pm

Forgot to note the time, but "Classic Girl" was playing in the background during last night's "Fear the Walking Dead" episode...scene where the 2 teenage kids of the leads were ransacking a neighborhood 'rich people' house (and trying on their clothes.)

I was thinking this was just kind of a cool moment in a show I was watching...

It was. It was tastefully done, and the show is set in L.A. It played with the scene perfectly. I actually really enjoyed it.

Agree. It totally worked with the scene. It was a pleasant surprise. :thumb:

Well, you’re kinda right.

I only have two channels on my tv. But that’s just me, doesn’t really have anything to do with my country

i know I'm beating a dead horse but here's the deal - if you create art you're allowed to make a living off of it.
if they used it in a Donald trump or an anti abortion ad, judge away.
but tv isn't all shit, and while I don't watch walking dead but it seems people speak highly of it.
I liked seeing DN in sons of anarchy. and every song that david simon's people chose for 'the wire' and 'treme' was meaningful and great.
also I'm always happy when there's a kinks song in a commercial. ray davies is every bit the equal of any songwriter of his era, and has hardly ever made a dime off of it.
so he can sell 'picture book' to Kodak and i'll cheer him on.
true, perry's a putz for some of the shit that he commercializes. but a great song in a movie or good tv show? cool by me.
give 'em a break. or at least let's limit hateful critique to wishes that don't hope that a father of some cute kids 'rots alone'.

99/100 times "fuck you Perry" is the right answer.

Poor Larry is the 1% :hehe:

Even I am fine with this.

It's literally every other time they have sold their music that has been lame.

You guys are just defending your rectangular friend. The fact of the matter is that Perry now sells even the songs that were sacredly dedicated to her girlfriend. Need some money? Meh, let's just rent Summertime Rolls for a romantic scene in Baywatch.

Fuck you, Perry!

I don't mind if a song by a band i like is used in a TV show/Movie

In fact I kind of like that.

But a commercial....no. I could feel the bile rise from my stomach every time I heard Blitzkrieg bop in a Coppertone commercial

An established old band like Janes can sell their stuff. It's a sellout if it was 91 and they did this. I love hearing Janes come on unexpectedly.

For me, it's how the song is used or the product it's promoting. In this instance, it was tasteful and made sense for the setting of the show.

Larry, music is meant to create a mood. If another artistic endeavor (in this case, a television show) wants to use a song to create the mood for their scene, don't you think a song is being used for its intended purpose?

It's not like Classic Girl is being used to sell perfume.

I liked that the show used a song that isn't so common like Jane Says or Been Caught Stealing.
