So since it was Perry's bday yesterday I listened to Jane's for he first time in a good while. This was actually a really good show where Perry sounded pretty damn good for the most part.

Jane's - a "pretty darn good" band (for the most part).

That's amazing accurate - you nailed it bman :lolol:

Perry just got SRved!
:tiphat: , but I stole it from Twain. But it's still true.
To keep with Perry's outer space theme of ... well... since the P4P days... (and alluding to an old philosophy trope), you could have also said: Comparing Bowie to PF is like comparing the Dogstar to a dog.

Perfect.
And speaking of Bowie and perry, I attended the 'songs of David Bowie' show at Carnegie hall tonite. It was a mish mosh as these things usually are, with some good and some uninspired performances. Perry sang rebel rebel. Dressed in black with a big hat, he sang nicely - the song was more in his range than his own songs. It wasn't the high point or the low point. But it was okay, and the crowd, not in the least bit there for perry Farrell, seemed to respond well to his rock star take on a rock star's rock star song.
High moments, by the way, were Laurie Anderson (always crashing in the same car), Gogol bordello (breaking glass - brilliant) Debbie Harry (Starman), Joseph Arthur (man who sold the world, solo with a looper - amazing - and he unfurled an AMERICAN flag at the end with 'fuck trump' painted on it - love that guy), J Mascis (quicksand, acoustic duet with Sean Lennon), Michael stipe (ashes to Ashes with piano and female voice accompaniment), and Flaming Lips (life on Mars).

Low points were Jakob Dylan, introduced as a guy who's written many anthems (maybe the mc thought his dad was there), singing heroes, cat power (five years), and the roots, for bailing out in some feud about shared gear.

Did Bettye LaVette perform, or did I hear of a 2nd show?

Yes and she was great. She sang 'it ain't easy', a song that Bowie and she both covered in 1972. I should have included her in the list of better performances. And there is a 2nd show, tonite, at radio city. A few different acts and a lot of the same ones.

I'm looking at that photo on my phone sitting in a waiting room so it's a little tough to judge, but my initial impression that if his hair was lime green, he'd make a perfect Joker.

Isn't this thing live online? or was, anyway, I missed it.
Due to the massive demand, concert organisers will be offering fans a chance to view both concerts on a live stream via Skype.

Thanks, I didn't finish reading the whole thing...
Fans will be asked to make a charity donation of around £15 to arts charities in order to view the live shows.
I'll wait for the vids on youtube.

I went tonight. Perry, Blondie, and J.Mascis were the only good acts. I grew up on classic rock and a lot of Bowie. Whoever curated this show sucked. Most people in the audience knew about 15% of the songs. No Changes! Come on!

I thought Perry sounded great but his voice, as usual, wasn't loud enough.

I'll bet that's the only reason he sounded great to you. Because you couldn't hear him.

I loved how on that clip people stopped clapping because they couldn't listen to Perry's signature whisper-singing.
