I can't believe how much mileage they've gotten from the one Palladium show!

Like I've said many times before I just wish they'd release the DVD of that show.

Somewhat of a side question: why is all this anniversary stuff being called "sterling spoon"? What is the significance of a sterling spoon as it pertains to JA's legacy?

I guess it's because silver is a 25th anniversary. Where the spoon comes into it I don't know. But maybe people are familiar with silver spoons. Silver chandelier might be a bit chincy. Silver bullet would've worked though. They could have had Etty dressed up as a werewolf on the cover.

25 year Anniversary is "silver", well in marriages anyway (10 years is Tin/Aluminum, 15 is Crystal, 20 is China, 30 is Pearl, 35 Coral, 40 Ruby, 45 Sapphire, 50 is gold and 60 years is diamond)

And the spoon....well.... heroin reference

$100 bucks for NS, Ritual, Kettle Whistle and Palladium on vinyl? hmmmmmmm

I wonder if there will be a book or anything interesting included.

It's a 5K limited run.

Very tempted.

it's limited because that's how many of us are left world wide :lolol:

The santeria design is cool. Palm trees, surf boards, flames, hand-cuffs etc.

It just showed up with today's mail. I forgot I preordered it a while back with a 20% discount and $25 store credit at Acoustic Sounds for under $60 shipped. I won't have a chance to listen and compare with my original vinyl pressings of NS and RDLH until Monday.

Spent the morning listing and comparing the Sterling LPs with my originals.

For the box, all LPs are really flat, quiet, heavy 180gm pressings. Most were very clean, but NS was a bit dirty. All LPs in this set played flawlessly. All LPs come in white paper/plastic sleeves. The original inset sleeve for NS is the same as the original LP, but RDLH has a single sheet replicating the art/lryics sleeve the original LP had. For whatever reason, mine came with two identical lyric/art sheets. The live LP and Kettle Whistle LP have no additional inserts or sleeves. The Live Palladium LPs are in a gatefold.

NS and RDLH appear to be new 2016 vinyl masters done by Bernie Grundman. This is a good thing as the previous reissues from 2009-11ish have been generally panned for mediocre, tinny sound.

Nothing's Shocking: I actually prefer this new one to my original LP pressing. My original LP pressing is a bit harsh on the high end, this new one sounds a lot smoother without going dull or murky. A bit more bottom end as well.

Ritual De Lo Habitual: Comparing my original single LP release to this set, I still prefer the overall sound on the original to this release. The box set RDLH LPs are cut at a bit lower volume and just don't sound as "open" as the original does. It's not a big deal-breaking difference but it's noticeable doing a direct A/B comparison. The original has more "pop" in that it has a more live-in-the-studio sound on tracks like "Three Days" then the box set version. I wouldn't call the box set RDLH "murky" though, maybe just a fraction more tame, but it's certainly crankable.

Listening to the Kettle Whistle LP, I overall slightly prefer the old CD sound to the LP release. That said, the title track has better bottom end on the vinyl. The Live at the Hollywood Palladium LPs (w/fade ins/outs on each side) seem pretty close to the CD included in the "Curiosities" CD box.

Overall, I think this release came out a bit better'n the cheap cash grab I was expecting. There's nothing new for us diehards, but for vinyl-heads looking to get the JA classic Warner Bros stuff in one buy, this is a decent purchase, especially if you can get it well below the $100 retail.

I was wrong about Bernie Grundman cutting new vinyl masters for this set. Apparently, Capitol Records' Ian Sefchick did it.

if i ever stop moving i do want to invest in some decent home audio stuff.

Thanks Panda.

I think I'm going to buy this.

So they did some sort of remastering job on NS?

I read a few reviews on the box set:

A band that recorded 2 studio albums before breaking up in 1991 seems to be scraping the bottom of the barrell again, but partnering these 2 albums, with re-releases of a previously released compilation, and a live disc from a previous box set seems like a lazy lack of creativity, and as a fan almost insultung ... Now I have always loved the artwork associated with janes addiction, but beyond that none of the previously released compilations, and hits packages have much to offer. Almost all of the unreleased recordings are the same songs they have released over and over again. Its amazing that a band with only a couple dozen songs can release greatest hits albums, compilations, a box set, ... and now another box set. And this time even the cover art is horrendous, this skull design is by far the most boring and unimaginetive artwork ever on a Janes Addiction product. With Casey Nicoli out of the picture, it seems Perry Farrell by himself is not very interesting after all. ( note: this rant does not count the semi-reunion studio albums since they are not even mentioned in these box sets and compilations )

And this:

OMG the originals compared to this is a joke, don't waste your money, purchase the original copies if you can. I have both of all and the dynamic range is completely different. The originals make these reissues sound like cassettes.

So it doesn't seem worth it?

I'd like to have Kettle Whistle and Palladium lp though.

Panda, not interested in selling just those two records? :dunce:

This is the info I have:
They didn't release anything new in "Sterling Spoon" mostly because it was released by Warner. That's not Jane's label anymore, though they can do anything they want with their catalog.
Warner can't release new material from Jaane's - though they still can re-edit over and over the same records.
Is it worth for the band? In some way, yes; in some way, no. Can they do anything for that? No.

Jane's Addiction was signed to Warner with a 7-albums contract, altough they only released 2 studio records:

1. Nothing's Shocking
2. Ritual de lo Habitual

On my belief -and this is just a theory-, this were the releases that filled the Warner's contract:

3. Live and Rare
4. Kettle Whistle
5. Up from the Catacombs
6. A Cabinet of Curiosities
7. Sterling Spoon

Maybe the 2 Porno for Pyros albums were also included on that deal, because they were released by Warner and with half of JA's band. I don't know.

--
On the other side...
Strays, The Great Escape Artist and Live in NYC were released by Capitol (a brand of Universal Music). That's why there were no "post Relapse" releases on the Sterling Spoon box set.

Anyways, the band is lazy about showing new material. That's a fact.

Funny that this popped back up because Jane's (or whoever runs their Twitter) just recently promoted Stirling Spoon and told everyone to hurry and purchase before they were all gone.

Right.

Like they are going to shift 3000 copies of the albums everyone already has
