As per the last dark matter:
He went shopping for a piano with Todd, claimed he wanted to start writing as soon as he gets the piano in his living room, and he also already talked with his publisher about getting him in touch with a producer.

psyched!

This is almost as exciting as when he said he was working on 2 albums five years ago.

Can't wait!

The years are really getting away from us here. I thought it was 5.

It's 8 years ago he said that:

http://aintnoright.org/viewtopic.php?f= ... olo+albums

I had as much faith in it happening back then as I do today, apparently.

Maybe he's actually been working, but just not gotten around to releasing.

8? This forum didn't exist 8 years ago and it says "2012" on the thread you link to. But when that's said I'm surprised it's 5. I would have bet my life it was no more than 2

I have a lot of faith it'll happen, dude's buying a piano and is having meetings! That's action not just words. promising

No matter how badly these guys fuck up, I will always see potential in them. This could be good.

I'm not holding my breath that he ever releases something, and if he does, that it will be of any quality.

You can hear some of his fine work in Obvious.

That's what I always thought but I read something with Ron Champagne the other day where he said it could have been him or Dave Jerden.

I remember Dave saying in an interview years ago that he'd had piano lessons as a child and that was where he'd learned all the music theory which he knows.

Also, I think he played keys on slow divers and I would for you on triple x???

Yeah, I was just messing around with my comment. I thought it was Perry... and I said it because it's just the same note being played over and over again.

I'd imagine Dave has a basic understanding of playing the piano, meaning that he can play chords, play melodies with his right hand, he understands inversions, etc. And regarding music theory, he probably means major and minor scales, the pentatonic scale, and maybe the mixolidian and dorian modes. That's pretty much all you can hear in his music.

And by that, I mean that I wouldn't expect him to release intricate piano-based songs.

I'd rather it was a 4 song Janes EP. But Dave is definitely inspired by these Roger Waters shows so hopefully he gets working soon.

Dave said it's Perry doing the piano stuff on obvious in one of those ritual anniversary articles.

I'm sure I remember pictures of Dave noodling on a keyboard in the studio with Jane's, either during the Reznor sessions or during the making of TGEA, maybe both.

Not the Reznor sessions, but he fully took control of all the music on TGEA.

...although they had to buy in songwriting talent from TV on the Radio. Which maybe doesn't bode well for Dave's solo outing.

I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by this, but definitely surprised - DN's given the impression the last few years that being a musician is, at best, a way to pay the bills rather than a passion or a calling. Even back when he directed that porno, there was an interview when he was talking about his passion for film and said something about how it was (making or consuming) what made him happy in the way that music "used to when he was younger" (I'm paraphrasing from dim memory rather than actually quoting) and all his more recent activities seem to bear that out.

Didn't Perry tell Rolling Stone that he (as in, "Jane's Addiction") had like 60 songs written for a new album like 3 years ago?

Expect more of "You do not have what it takes to be a solo artist...err, I mean, Ink Master."
