That's just because music isn't all about technique, knowledge of theory, skill, and proficiency. Obviously professional musicians need some level of those things, but good music is also about originality, creativity, and having your own voice. But, it's not just about that, either. Music has to resonate with someone else, for whatever reason. Dave is inconsistent in just about all those categories (who isn't?), but his highest peaks are really fucking high. There are moments where his guitar tone, the feeling in it, it's as good as B.B. King. But a lot of his output since Deconstruction has been down around the level of straightforward radio-rock studio-musician shit. The guy can play, but he can't write a song to save his life.

Those are the pants he wore on that infamous rehearsal with the unknown band. Word is that he wore those pants and the band was like "wow, those pants, man, Dave, you're wearing them". Dave was like "Yeah, and I will play guitar whilst wearing them." After a look of shock, the band members went "r u serious Dave? Not going to-- like-- take them off or anything? Are these your favourite pants from this era?" Nobody can agree on what Dave answered. Some say he said yes, some say he said no. Other people say the same thing, but firmly believe Dave was being sarcastic.

A number of weeks later, the band ceased to be and Dave would go on to become the guest guitarist of Christina Aguilera.
