all right, a fellow strong opponent of down tuning! Coulnd't agree more with what you say. To make matters even worse they're down a whole step nowadays which of course just sucks the life out of everything even morepetesballs wrote:this track is great.
i believe one of the reasons it sounds great is that it's standard A440.
isn't this like the first thing perry's done that's not tuned down a half or whole pitch, since 1997?
the E-flat version of jane's just ain't great. it takes all the urgency out of everything,
there's no feeling of excitement, it sounds dull, laid back, tired and boring.

That Troubadour thing was a benefit gig where I think Perry only did one (maybe two?) songs - that Perry can (could - 10 years ago!) get his voice to work at the original pitch doesn't mean he could hold it together for a whole 60-70 minute set at that pitch though.Matz wrote:all right, a fellow strong opponent of down tuning! IIRC they were down a whole step for NINJA and then went up to E flat tuning after Eric left? Didn't know they'd gone back down (I can't listen to them anymore) again.

I'm just assuming they're still one step down, haven't checked

I seem to remember that at some point they played 3 steps down.

At the NME awards, they were like a step and half down, maybe 2! It sounded so awful and I was disappointed but was so excited they OG lineup was onstage that I didn't want to admit it to myself.Larry B. wrote:I seem to remember that at some point they played 3 steps down.

the same could be said for RATM. the murky waters of E-flat work great for
alice in chains, tuning down worked great for soundgarden. for jane's i see
it as nothing but horse-shitting up your whole vibe.
it's one thing if perry can't sing the old jane's shit unless it's tuned down, but
i mean c'mon. give it a rest then. there is no comparison. old jane's was
a ferrari in 4th gear. new jane's is a 10mpg pig land cruiser going uphill.
there is no sense of urgency.
there was a taste of it with eric back in the band, but still... i'd like
to hear jane's to a high tempo, standard tuning set, regardless of perry's insecurities.
this track kicks ass and it actually sounds like this guy "perry farrell".... pretty cool.
