How did Mike Murphy (great drummer) end up in the band?

The original plan was to have Perk as the drummer, but that obviously didn't shake out.

from an old Deconstruction interview:
Michael Murphy: I played with Eric about three years ago in another band called Daisy Chamber. That's when I met him. The Ritual de lo Habitual record had just been recorded and he had a little time off before they started touring. He was a temporary member of Daisy Chamber. After Jane's broke up, I ran into him at Canter's Deli. He told me he and Dave had been having trouble finding a drummer, so he said, 'Come on down.' I did, and things gelled immediately.

Murphy was in Lions and Ghosts, a contemporaneous band with Jane's that also had members living in the Wilton House. The guys go back a ways, in other words.

Thanks guys, I knew they originally wanted Perk to play drums but not the rest of the story. I'll try and check out Lions and Ghosts. I think they contributed a bit to the Whores book and I vaguely remember the singer wrote an article about Jane's a few years back but I've never heard their music. Since this year I finally entered the 21st century and got Wi-Fi, I''ll see if there's anything on the YouTube :lol:

I've checked out most of the bands connected in some way to Jane's and really dig most of them. My faves are;

The Bicycle Thief
Geraldine Fibbers
Fishbone
Firehose/Minutmen/Mike Watt

I'm not so keen on

Ethyl Meatplow
Thelonious Monster,
The Nymphs
