Ugh... he was doing 4 or 5 Soundgarden songs with the original members backing him... to my mind the most promising part of the show. Now, I wonder how they'll scramble to split up his songs...

From Blabbermouth.com:
“Gibson announced today (Tuesday, January 15) the release of a limited-edition Chris Cornell Tribute ES-335 guitar. The guitar will officially be unveiled at "I Am The Highway: A Tribute To Chris Cornell", the star-studded concert event honoring Chris Cornell's legacy and contribution to music history on Wednesday, January 16 at The Forum in Los Angeles.
"Chris Cornell was not only one of the most iconic singer songwriters of all time, he was a modern innovator who left a legacy that transcends music genres and generations," says Cesar Gueikian, chief merchant officer, Gibson. "It is our honor to release this tribute ES-335 in his memory. It's a guitar Chris fell in love with and which became a part of his creative expression. Chris was a special artist and we hope that this guitar will inspire fans to find their sound, and inspiration, just like Chris did, for many years to come."
This show is quickly taking on an aura of grotesque exploitation.

Exactly what I was thinking ....
Riding on the coattails of a dead man ....

Avery on a TotD song?! Now that really would be bizarre, and for a host of reasons. I find it hard to believe that if Matt Cameron and Stone Gossard are there, that Ament wouldn't be. All of this aside from the fact that I see even less of a connection between EA and TofD and its members.
Sadly, the commercial takeover isn't much of a surprise. LiveNation will be selling locks of his hair dipped in gold with the proceeds going to the grieving widow.
As for Patton, flu or cold, apparently.

That would have been absolutely killer. In fact it would be really intruiging if that contingient started writing music together.
Also, are all bands and artists playing strictly Cornell material?

I believe the Melvins are opening playing their own material, but beyond that almost entirely Cornell material, including some songs he covered.
I think the Foo Fighters were doing one of their songs, but as a tribute?
I just scanned someone else's copy of the setlist, I have to go off memory...
And, this was yesterday, so "subject to change" of course...

I'd rather hear a congested Mike Patton than a healthy Perry Farrell.
I am honestly looking forward to hearing what Miley Cyrus does. I think she's fully capable of knocking it out of the park.

Eric's appearance at 5:30ish (timestamps don't work well with this site). He's not formally introduced other than "we need a bass player", but you can kinda see him
Re: Both Eric and Perry are Involved with the Chris Cornell Tribute Concert
Perry and Morello better combo now than Perry and Dave.
Dave and Morello better combo now than Perry and music.

Miley. Damn. Knew it.
You guys think she's maybe available to sing for Jane's Addiction?

So many mixed feelings about this event. There were some great moments, many not. Although I enjoyed it overall, the whole thing left me pretty cold as it just seemed so divorced from the artists I had known and loved for three decades. It felt more like a barometer of his legacy than a genuine tribute. There were too many artists who actually had little to do with Chris, and this watered down the love. Not to mention notable absences, like Eddie Vedder.
Other than that:
I didn't think Perry was embarrassing, which is a result.
Miley Cyrus...was painful, for me. Yes, she has a voice, but having her sing 'Say Hello to Heaven' bordered on criminal.
EA got a name check from Stone after the had played the song, but was pretty anonymous otherwise.
Chaney was up there for 3-4 songs, I think, and was completely anonymous. Normal service, in other words.
I can't say that I had heard of Taylor Momsen before last night, but she was brilliant. One of the best vocalists of the night, along with Brandi Carlile...whom I know nothing about.

To be fair, many of the people who were close to Chris in Seattle are now dead as well.
And keep in mind, just because someone wasn't friends with Chris doesn't mean they weren't supremely influenced by him. This was an opportunity for some relatively well known musicians to pay tribute to him.
Not to mention notable absences, like Eddie Vedder.
He did his tribute in August at his own show. Played a Chris song solo, by himself. Then played another solo acoustic song for Petty.
The guy has never really been high profile.
I can't say that I had heard of Taylor Momsen before last night, but she was brilliant. One of the best vocalists of the night,
She sings for The Pretty Reckless, who are... on record... a pretty straight forward radio rock band.
But I have seen them live, and they are dirty and bluesy and everything good about Rock n Roll.
along with Brandi Carlile...whom I know nothing about.
She was at the Pearl Jam shows in August. She's a friend of the band. She's kind of a newer artist. I wasn't too into what I heard of hers, so never explored it more. But she's aight.

What was the vibe like during the soundgarden set? I’m watching the videos and it’s making me sad. Not because it sounds bad, but because it’s just such a reminder of what a loss they endured.
