I listened to it on my commute and I gotta say it’s nowhere near as terrible as I thought it was going to be. Will I listen to it again? No but I was expecting I like em big territory and it’s just like shitty and cringey old man rock territory.

Though I almost lol’d to myself during Machine Girl where the lyrics are ‘keep talking, sex talking’ because I’m pretty sure those were joke lyrics 67 posted one time.

No, it's just an old song that Perry is recycling. We've just been making fun of it for that long.

Lol okay that would explain that then.

I’m also impressed Ettys voice still sounds awful with 2019 audio technology.

I bought the record. And it’s complete garbage!!! Although I give Perry credit for making new music. I just don’t dig it.

Can we stop the Perry vs. Dave integrity thing? It's completely and utterly moot at this point.

SP was awful. Kind Heaven is a little better but still bad. His goofy, corny, out-of-touch uncle shit is a huge impediment to any chance of Jane's being good again. Not to mention his voice.

Panic Channel was HORRENDOUS. Dave hasn't released a note of music in eight years.

Eric at the very least lends his services to a good band that has a lot of integrity - Garbage. I think he still works on solo stuff, but doesn't release because he doesn't feel there is demand for it, which is a weak excuse. He's pretty stubborn and set in his ways to a fault. But I still admire him.

Perkins plays his ass off all the time with a many different artists, big or small. That's dope. He rules.

Perry Farrell, Kind Heaven

★★★★☆

For Perry Farrell fans, the mere fact that he’s releasing his first solo album in almost two decades should be enough to generate excitement. But the former Jane’s Addiction and Porno for Pyros frontman, who excels at the kind of psychedelic punk rock pioneered by Iggy Pop and David Bowie, clearly thinks that’s not enough. Not only does Kind Heaven feature an “orchestra” of musicians including Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Elliot Easton (The Cars) and Dhani Harrison, it’s also accompanied by the launch of an eccentric-sounding theme park in Las Vegas under the same name.

Fans will have to put this vision of “a dynamic world… offering the best of southeast Asian culture, music, food… exoticism and spiritual enlightenment” to one side in order to appreciate Farrell’s album, which is really very good. Kind Heaven opens on the Sixties-influenced “(red, white and blue) Cheerfulness”, with bounding rhythms and Farrell’s barking, Paul McCartney-like delivery (think “Back in the USSR”). This quickly veers into the industrial squall and distorted vocals of “Pirate Punk Politician”, which envisages Donald Trump as a would-be anti-Christ.

My review..

(red, white, and blue) Cheerfulness - sounds like Sesame Street theme.
Pirate Punk Politician - catchy chorus, but not a very good song.
Snakes Have Many Hips - ok, this is a fine, fun, throw-away song.
Machine Girl - another catchy chorus but nothing else.
One - Actung Baby? ...And Justice for All? Eddie Lou Farrell shines, I kinda like it.
Where Have You Been All My Life - Not feeling this one at all. Yawn. Least fav.
More Than I Could Bear - sounds like a bastardization of FNM's "King for a Day"
Spend The Body - More like "declare bankruptcy on the body"
Let's All Pray For This World - autotuned apacolypse. Fitting ending.

overall: nothing I'll be compelled to listen to twice, but could be worse. C-

I took a quick listen .. sounds like a meatloaf bat out of hell vibe to me .. except with stoopid electronic modern rawk production .. mostly tho it sounds like desperation .. old people trying to prove they are still sexual to the world .. kinda gross hearing crusty old plastic surgery disasters trying to sound sexy and sexual with musical production geared towards teenage audience .. like they think they are turning on teenagers with their sexual chemistry .. i think perry has some good musical ideas .. and this has a musical theatre vibe .. just the lyrical content and production do not work at all .. i give it a rating of DELETE DELETE DELETE .. that's 3 deletes out of 1 .. that's how bad I want this record off my hard drive

I checked out the track samples on iTunes. My general impression is that this album probably makes Chris Cornell's "Scream" album sound like Zeppelin IV.

That song Cheerfulness reminds me of the ZZ Top's song Tush
Someone said this album is better than Satellite Party, I'm not so sure.

Ya know, I felt the same way. But there are moments I didn't expect. Like the first track. I mean, it's still a bad album. But I'd give it a quick listen.

First of all, the length of the album and a total number of tracks are a total joke. If you want to make a "theatrical concept" about anything then sure as hell it has to be something more than miraculously squeezed out 30 minutes with tracks dating back to 2010. I don't believe Perry can hold a "concept" for 9 years nowadays, let alone for a month. I'm 99% sure many of the production decisions were made to artificially lengthen the songs, pushing it hard towards the half an hour mark, which looks more acceptable than, say, a 26 minute "longplay". The fact that Perry had to rehash other people's songs under his own name, despite claiming having a few "hours" of material is just sad. It could've been a decent little LP, but instead of that we got one of the most generic and bland sounding pieces of faux-pop this year; my special golden turd award goes to the opening track (a Sesame Street comparison is a good one... it's not vaudeville, it's clowns on xanax) and "Spend The Body" which is probably the most sleazy thing you can get from an aging ex-rockstar. I'd give it half a star for a sadistic fun factor, but to be honest, it's really all that's left when it comes to post-nowadays-Jane's Addiction history. Perry's just a fucking clown with his wannabe diva wife, handful of plastic surgeries, failed attempts at launching own brands, failed attempts at modelling, failed attempts at being a popstar, failed attempts at being relevant. And it's not like I hate the guys' guts, Perry always seemed to be a extraordinarily humble, sweet and warm guy and he's still like that in interviews, but damn, he's better off with a new or better manager these days. And we all know that occupation is probably handled by Etty.

tl;dr new album is shit 1,5/10
