There are two mentions of “Laughing Beats” from 2009 in Google... one from an anonymous comment on Eric’s old blogspot site (!?) and another from Rolling Stone.

Weird.

What does the blogspot comment say? Nothing comes up for me on google.

It tells Eric that Jane’s should record different versions of their songs (e.g., Funky version, 5/7 version, Punk version) and mentions the song by its title. I’m not sure if Eric had mentioned it before, but he certainly didn’t mention it in the post that prompted that anonymous comment.

'So we started out with the idea of maybe write something with a jagged time signature, like 5/7 or something'

Why not record something like 3 versions of the same song. One version with an odd time signature(a la radiohead), one with the funky beat and one tribal. The Stones and the Beatles used to work that way. It makes sense if your going to release them song by song instead of a full length album. This way everyone in the band can have their say and the fans can pick and choose which version they like best.

For example

Track1 Laughing Beats(avery/navarro) odd time version
Track2 Laughing Beats(farrell) funky version
Track3 Laughing Beats(perkins) tribal version

In retrospect its crazy they tried to write and finish a few songs in like 10 days. They should reappraise the music they had back then- they might have a better idea of how tackle those ideas now that 10 years have passed. Really into the idea of an odd time jane's tune.

Also Dan said on twitter those 10 seconds are all we're going to hear of the song... for now. Maybe there are plans to release the whole thing?

The outtakes from TGEA were surprising. Should have taken out the Duff contributions and put these in as complete songs.

Where's the yellow one? (That's how I remember it)

It was my favorite.

It was my favorite too. All of three of these were leagues better than anything that made the album. Although I do wonder how much Sitek had a hand in these ideas.

Cool that this has been leaked but it doesn't sound very good tbh.

Who's the guy talking about there being "a musician (Dave) that used to call into this show..."? Not Dan but the other guy.

He says he can't enjoy Jane's music anymore because one of the other band members was too weird and ruined the whole thing for him. Are we to assume he's talking about Perry?

I would assume so. Perry ruined Jane's for most Jane's fans.

I don't know man. Listening to those TGEA snippets again, I don't think the guys recording the instruments are the problem.

Those TGEA outtakes are cool its just that they have too much TVOTR/Sitek influence. Plus I think Perry would've absolutely butchered them.

I think this one sound the most "Jane's" to me (starts 1:30 in)

Agreed. I still can't believe they resurrected that song.

Haha remember when Perry wrote cool lyrics instead of atrocities like "twice your age, we nicknamed him grandpa" or some shit?

Sure, but Bloody Mary still sucks.

This is like saying Another Soulmate > I like 'em Big
