A short, piercing clip with Perry talking about "Mountain Song." Holy, Mrs. Smith:

Why did I never realize that Perry's mother committed suicide? And I feel like this is the first time I've ever heard that coming down the mountain was referring to coming down from being high. I always heard the story that he was looking down from Laurel Canyon and talking about how one day everyone one down in the city would know his name and that's what the cash in coming down the mountain was about.

That was shockingly real for 2020 Perry.

I’m impressed.

More.

His face also looks less ridiculous. I wonder when this was actually recorded.

Did you forget? I thought that was pretty well known. That's why she's mentioned in Then She Did... "Will you say hello to my ma? Will you pay a visit to her? She was an artist just as you were... I'd have introduced you to her... She'd repair legs like a doctor, on the kitchen chairs we sat on. She was unhappy just as you were..." etc.

I always thought that was Perry's way of connecting back to his childhood and his mom's suicide. Very cool to learn that's who Ms. Smith is.

Perry's lyrics were at their height when he was being real (even if it was cryptic and hidden) about the loss of important women in his life. That's when Jane's Addiction feels most real to me, anyway.

That was good! Thanks for sharing. I'd love to see the whole interview but I don't want to subscribe just for that.

I knew Perry's mother had committed suicide but didn't know the Ms Smith reference.

Also refreshing, no Etty constantly interrupting and answering for Perry.

Yeah, there's an old interview clip with Dave or Perry saying the two bonded over both losing their mothers when they were young. Sometimes before playing "Then She Did" they'd say, "Let's go do this for our moms."

Yeah, I knew about her suicide too. I seem to remember there was a hypothesis that 'Ms. Smith' was a heroin dealer or something.

Apparently there's a full two-hour interview this guy is going to upload, but you have to pay for it.

I don't want to sign up for his shit, but I am interested to hear this full interview.

I had no idea the 'Ms Smith' reference in that song was about his mother. Wow. I thought the only song that referenced his Mom was Then She Did. Thanks for posting. Let's get the 2 hour interview!

Mountain Song is about drugs? Also, in other breaking news, water is wet.

is that the same quote that the song will be a once in a lifetime, never to be repeated like a beer commercial, then it ends up on a box set. to be repeated endlessly???

I thought exactly the same, but didn’t want to be a party pooper. I don’t like listening to him. He could be making up like 70% of what he says. He could just as easily say that her mom gave him the idea of an immersive entertainment centre and that Classic Girl is actually about his mom. I really can’t feel anything for Perry. I’m just numb.

Was that officially a single?

There's no 7 inch of that? And Discogs lists only a promo cd ....

I thought MS was the only proper single?

I never even realised Perry sung cash in Mrs Smith :conf:

Some of the footage of the plastering process appears in the original video for Mountain Song, the only single from this album.

Their debut album, Nothing's Shocking, was released in 1988 on Warner Bros. Records. The album was considered a failure on the music charts only reaching #103 on the Billboard 200, however, the album has since been certified 2× Multi-Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Three singles, "Jane Says", "Mountain Song" and "Ocean Size", were released from the album in 1988 and 1989 respectively. Their debut single "Jane Says", became their first chart entry on the Alternative Songs chart, peaking at #6. The song was one of two songs from Nothing's Shocking to enter any Billboard chart ( "Ocean Size " #36 US Alternative ) .
:noclue: from the wiki...guess you guys forgot about mtv and music videos from years past....don't need a pressed single to tell the radio stations what to play
