For me the best solo from this band is in the song Mountain Song. I always like to go back at this video with the live recording of this solo. It's so memorable and played flawlessly. Love it! I wish other bands had more interesting solos like this.

That Trip Away solo is just Communication Breakdown revisited imo.

The Trip Away solo is cool but I can’t agree with that.

Three Days is the pinnacle in my opinion. If you believe that, as legend has it, the band recorded Three Days in one take and the footage from Gift is actually the performance of the one take they recorded of the song, then consider that Dave pushed out those two solos in one go.

I’m inclined to believe it. If you look at the Mt Baldy footage from before Ritual was released, Dave is a mess on the solos. He gets to a few of the motifs that always get played on the first half of the solo, but by and large he bungles it as if he doesn’t remember what he did on the record. This would make some sense with the drug use, but would also make more sense if Dave was trying to remember what he did on the one take.

I scour through bootlegs from 1.0 Jane’s to hear the ways the Three Days solo evolves. I love that to this day, the first half of the first solo before the soft part stays consistent. It’s always an adventure to hear how he attacked the second half of that first solo.

I’m currently trying to teach myself Dave’s solo on No One’s Leaving. It’s a lot of fun. Not his finest work, but some cool speed moments. I love the simplicity of his solo on Summertime Rolls. I think his two solos on Oceansize are spectacular. The shredding he does on record in the final chorus of Obvious is impressive if only for how long he keeps it going in such chaos. Underground is the only memorable solo Dave did in any non-Eric song, to the point that it sounds like his work from 86-91.

But the right answer is Three Days.

But the

I've been very impressed by Dave's solo on Ocean Size the first time I heard it.

Post-Jane's ? What about this one ?

Without a doubt. One of the greatest in rock history as far as I'm concerned.
