Soundgarden broke up for like a little over a decade and came back and didn't miss a beat. It CAN be done but Perry has gone and messed with his face and teeth & prances around looking like Don Knotts cousin from Vegas...I was with it in 97, 01 & even 2008 & I'm sorry if we were going to see them do anything even closely comparable to their glory days we would have by now :banghead: :lolol:
Porno played a few great shows. Not sure why Jane's wouldn't be able to as well.
I'm not talking about the BAND...I'm talking about Perry Lau Farrell and his antics...the man is totally gone :balls:
Right. I'd say he did a pretty good job though at those shows. Look, I'm as down on him as anyone, but I give credit where its due.
Perry at the Metro show this past July was probably the closest to old Perry I’ll ever see. I was astonished. He did nothing cringey or anything that gave off “your uncle trying to be cool vibes”. I would go so far to say he even treated that show differently from the big lolla gig they did less than 24 hours later.

Speaking of Eric - if he came back because Dave is ill, then the silence surrounding his return could make more sense. You would think they'd have made a bigger deal of it to promote the tour.
Totally. It kind of struck me odd from the get-go that they are using a band photo from 2009. Usually when things like this are launched, there’s a lot more spectacle and such. And the contracts are usually signed many months before…sometimes even a year or two in advance.

Regarding the Soundgarden reunion- Cornell had made questionable decisions solo wise (I.e. the scream record), and it was amazing to me how he was able to just “turn it on” when he came back to the band.

I’m not that concerned about the new material- last time around they did not block out time to carve out songs, and this time they are so I really feel like we’ll get something cool. I also hope it’s a full record- I don’t just want a few songs with Eric, I want them to just go for it so they can do an album cycle and do it right. It would not surprise if they do a tour at some point and play a set with songs they didn’t do with Eric during NINJA- that’s the dream at least

It’s got an Occam’s razor feel for sure.

I really think it depends on how humble and open Perry is to Eric's ideas. Is Perry ok w/ Eric saying to him - we/you can do better? Jane's deserves more than writing Another Soulmate and slapping a Jane's sticker on it.

Eric knows to his core what Jane's should sound like and be.
Much as I love Bauhaus, I can't say they've maintained any sort of "recapturing of their early form" since the original 1998 reunion. They put out one basically incomplete, messy album in 2006 to date and their tours the past 25 years are basically nostalgia runs. It's a testament to the original songs and the overall musical talent of the band that they still remain a mostly great live experience but you can say that about any number of still touring 70's-80's bands. I mean, even The Cult and Iron Maiden still put out the occasional new studio album and play the new stuff when they tour.

Yeah Iron Maiden. Thats rock n roll at it's purest form.

How many groups re-capture their early form some 20-30 years later?! I can't think of one.
Gary Numan

He regularly tours and puts out albums. The last few have been pretty good, imo. His live shows are FANTASTIC! He plays a lot of his new music and mixes in a few fan faves. It's not like other bands who have to rely on the hits to draw the crowds. I've been a fan since I heard Cars in 1980 or whenever it was released. I was in 7th grade and thought it was so cool.

AC/DC.

I don't listen to them often but I appreciate their career longevity, they don't disappoint you. They do not change.

Shot in the Dark is a great track, at their seventies still have fun like kids.

It's like catching up with an old friend from high school drinking a beer together and it seems like time has never passed.
In a fast changing world they give you a reassuring feeling.

How long has Perry been talking about new Jane’s Addiction music?

Is there a timeline? I feel it’s gotta be like a year and half? Or am I totally wrong and first he mentioned was this summer?

Dave is definitely still in but if Josh did do it, he would be the only guy to play in Jane’s, RHCP and Pearl Jam which is badass.

Interestingly enough he did this back in May

How is it possible that Josh can play the most beautiful cover of I Would For You but not know the lyrics to Jane Says? That’s super freaky

Some more insight… https://www.nme.com/news/music/perry-f ... an-3302568
“…we recorded three songs with him.”

Joke’s on us…they’ve re-recorded three songs from the Warner albums. 😆

The stage production for the tour sounds intriguing. I saw the SP reunion tour a few years ago and the production was amazing.

I remember another interview where Perry said the stage production budget was the same for both bands. Might be the most interesting stage production since Jubilee.

Didn't Eric say they had four promising new song ideas? Do we know whether these are additional to the three they've already recorded, i.e. 7 songs?

Probably best to take all statements with a pinch of salt

Actually surprised no one mentioned them yet, but The Afghan Whigs. Reunited in 2013 and have delivered three excellent albums since. Their latest is getting rave reviews and they also still put on a hell of show. Dulli may be a bit older but he lost none of presence and charisma.

You are right, I can’t believe that I didn’t mention them as well…. Been a fan since the 90s, and this run has been spectacular. Each album has been better than the last, and the shows are always great. They choose a good intersection of old/new material, never rely too hard on the old songs. They are perfect. Honestly, they are my dark horse, favorite band of that era, and Dulli, certainly the best songwriter. And they are only adding to it. Even with a different lineup, all their integrity is in place…. The new album is once again, amazing.

Garbage announced an appearance on Oct 22 in LA, the same day that Jane's plays in Pittsburgh:

Are you posting this because Eric used to play in garbage? I'm confused.

Im guessing they will use their original bass player Daniel Schuman, who ironically plays with Perkins in a cover band.

Also god damn thinking about new JA songs with Eric… hope we don’t have to wait awhile

Yes. A session player can be there, but Eric was with Garbage live almost non-stop from 2005. I thought he was going to do both things

Interesting that Garbage has been opening for Alanis as of late. Eric not playing with either of them should’ve been our first clue.

I'm fairly certain he is not played with them much over the past however many years. I remember seeing that garbage was coming through St Louis a few years ago and looking to see if Eric had been playing with them and he had not.

But Eric played all the 2022 concerts from Garbage. And from these posts of the last month, he's still with them too. There are not Jane's officially informed dates apart from the SP's ones, so...

Me either.... just another layer I guess, the speculation has been slow, for the past few days.... I'm sure it doesn't really make a difference who plays the bass in Garbage, does it? A band like that, it could be anyone, right?
