Jane’s, just admit it…

Perry and Dave do apparently appear together on the new Sleaford Mods record. From https://www.nme.com/news/music/sleaford ... ll-3381685:
The album also comes with a surprising high profile guest turn from rock legends Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction on dark dance-punk of ‘So Trendy’.

“[Farrell] got in touch and said he wanted to write a song, so we said, ‘Yeah! Why not?’” recalled Williamson. “Myself and Andrew are not extensive Jane’s Addiction or Porno For Pyro fans, but we recognise he’s always been a very cool person. He added a brightness to the song, even though it’s not bright. It just feels like it has opened up the idea of what we do a bit more.”

No band books shows without a guitar player. Dave is obviously not involved and TVL must be slated to play guitar. The lack of transparency is lame. The only reason I can assume, for whatever reason, Dave is “whatever, just not now” about Jane’s and the others are holding out hope. If he’s a last minute addition, TVL gets a “thanks anyway” and paid, they write it off as loss worth taking because original Jane’s is back.

This is a really interesting possibility. It stands to reason the lack of transparency has to do with the door being kept open for DN as it was for the Pumpkin's tour. Granted it's just a handful of dates to have fun, make a coin, and warm up for Lolla, but very gracious of the slated player(s) to say they'd sign on...even as the specter of DN's return means they'd have to stay home. It appears Jane's has made some fierce friends/fans deep in the music community. Shameful in a way that for them to proceed they have to organize like this and bullshit their fans.

If Dave is not recording with them, I feel like Peter Distefano and Daniel Ash are the only appropriate players to sit in. Much like how I feel Martyn is the only appropriate replacement for Eric.

That being said, this is beyond frustrating. After 33 YEARS of prick teasing, this band still can’t get their shit together for a legit followup album to RItual. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!

Even Chris Chaney at this point is probably thinking to himself, you guys have some serious issues you need to work out.

Janes wouldn't be the same without their soap opera drama stories.

The lovers, the enemies, the kisses the sweetness the poisons the revenges the loves the betrayals the revenges you never know what is going to happen in the next season, it's really part of excitement.

Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro are like Elizabeth Taylor.
Janes are the Bold but Beautiful of the alternative rock.

Stickyfingers…I know you’re being cheeky here…but the soap opera drama is no longer amusing; way past its best before date.

It’s annoying as fuck and makes the band look bad. The amazing five year ride of the original band is being incredibly diminished by decades of bullshit acrimony. Even the original Misfits, after 33 years of drama and lawsuits have managed to play nice; they’ve given the fans what they have always wanted, with numerous reunion shows over the past seven years. And that band is led by allegedly one of the biggest assholes in the business.

There has always been acrimony between the band.
Since the beginning.

They broke during NS sessions (12.5% shirts), Eric and Perry hating and not talking to each other for years, RDLH sessions band didn't go to studio together (except three days), the fist fight between Dave and Perry (concert with the black eye), Eric hitting on Casey....

This is Jane's Addiction, they are like this, take it or leave it.
Every time there is a reunion you can only wonders how long it will last.

The most worrying thing is lack of creativity.
Getting into the studio and recording good songs seems to have become a difficult task for them.

Two albums (Strays and TGEA) in the last 30 years...

When was the last time Dave pushed himself artistically with his guitar playing? Deconstruction. Maybe .. kettle whistle and So What!? Maybe?
Not going to see Jane's. They don't play new songs. If they played "So What", "kettle" and at minimum 3 new tracks I might go. "So What" is great.
As much as I love So What, Perry went a little heavy on the electronics. I’d love to hear that song played in 1989. It could have been a classic. That chorus is everything that was wonderful about Janes.
"So What" without the electronics could sound really great. The song has more potential they could play it live this year and have it be more like classic Janes of 89 if they wanted to. Not much liking their rerun shows when they leave great songs as "So what" out.

I doubt they remember how to play that song. If someone asked them to play True Nature or the song Strays they'd probably be lost.

One song I wouldn't mind hearing them play live is The Riches.

I’m well aware of the band’s history. But this sort of acrimony (while once exciting when I was a teenager) wore out it’s welcome a very long time ago now. Just wondering when they’re collectively going to grow up. They’re not going to live forever.

If Dave is holding out over some petty shit (like Eric’s tell all), that’s pathetic. I would hope (or not) it’s something huge like Perry/Etty referred Taylor Hawkins to some shady drug dealer or something really dramatic with serious consequences. At the very least, it would bring some logic to current situation.

I used to really care. I just don’t anymore. Last shows looked to have a very cool vibe. I’m in for that, at my age. If Dave just doesn’t want to, but the others do, and other guitarists do to (like Daniel Ash 😎), then I’m in.

For the last time, Daniel Ash is special and all, but really is not much of a guitarist and has not improved in the past 40 or so years. He is fundamentally incapable of playing Jane’s Addiction music.

Right…

There’s a reason Troy was asked to do the tour.

I know people seem to hate him, but Klinghoffer will probably be involved in touring and new music. Personally I don’t get the hate, he’s not Dave but seems Dave isn’t interested. And beyond capable players — I’m sure the band wants excited easy to work with people involved.

I just want the band to come clean

Agreed- these are likely Troy’s last shows before Queens starts up and Josh will step in. Josh and Eric have recorded a bit together and have built chemistry so it would make sense to have him involved

It would be wild if Dave just showed up for these shows and the band just never acknowledges what happened lol

I think Daniel Ash being fully involved would be very interesting. His limitations would force the band to do something different…as opposed to them recording material that might attempt to mimic music from over 30 years ago and it sounding redundant.

Josh Cringehoffer gives me douche chills. His stage presence comes across self serving, like a guy jamming in his bedroom or something. It’s totally subjective, but that’s the vibe I get.

If the band wants to go the more traditional route (read “not Ash”), it should be Peter Distefano. To me, he makes the most sense. It would honour the past, while not being a Navarro blueprint. That being said, it is evident that they’re not going with him.

Nick from Kind Heaven is a better pick if they didn't go with Pete. Pete and Nick really delivered as a team when they traded off guitar parts on the first Porno gig. Klinghuffer not to great.

Perhaps the band wants to go back to when there was no social media and information was scarce.

I can understand and I agree with them.

Musicians don't have to justify anything.
They make their music their life and don't have to update their decisions every minute on socials.

Great bands of 60', 70', 80's changed line so many times on the albums or concerts and everything was fantastic, now with instagram everyone wants to decide what their favorite band should do.
Fuck that.

Perry-Eric team is back, those two are the creative force behind Janes.

If Dave doesn't agree, Eric will choose the guitarist, I think the choice falls on Josh because of the friendship between the two.
