One Hot Minute is either loved or hated. Rick Rubin produced that one. I'd like to hear his take on what it was like working with those guys during that time period.

yup...everyone turned on Dave as fast as they all turned on Eric when he was out...pretty sad
In fairness, the tour without Dave + Eric felt the most like real Janes since…1.0? Maybe? And at no point could you say that about the band without Eric. And I don’t remember very many people turning on Eric. He had proved vital. Dave was just proven potentially non vital. Plus, Dave has been playing generic rawk guitar for 20ish years now. Aaaaand, I think a lot of us are annoyed that Dave is preventing this from being perfect. Because yes, I think we’d all prefer him be there. It just doesn’t seem quite as critical as it used to.

Dave was a force to be reckoned with. Well they all were.

Dave probably could have fit in better with Metallica than when Eric auditioned for new bassist.

The goatee .. ever since then, Dave’s playing has suffered. 😆

I listened to one hot minute just the other day for the first time in years. It’s 80% horrible. A strange hybrid of hard and rocking and sickly commercial pop trash.

It’s 80% fantastic and the last great Chili’s album.
Ok .. maybe I’m being a little unfair. I agree it’s the last good chilli peppers album. It’s no where near as great as Ritual or Blood sugar

Definitely agreed there. But those are two of the greatest rock albums of all time.

What makes you think he was even in the room?

Rick Rubin (on the couch half asleep): “yeah… don’t play that part there”

RHCP: “Why?”

Rick Rubin: “ummm… idk. Anyway gotta go my limo’s here”

Never really got into RHCP. I like some songs and saw them at Lolla 92 or 93.

My fave is Freaky Styley.

Odd choice, that's my leest favourite of theirs (I only count RHCP albums up until OHM).

The eye opener for me was Mother's Milk ... BSSM, OHM, Uplift obviously also great. Learned to play bass listening to BSSM. Flea at his height was one of the most inventive bass players with an unequalled feeling for groove and rhythm. Listen to his bass line for you oughta know: he basically plays one note but makes it swing like a tit, it carries the whole song.

Too bad they turned into a pop band from Californication onwards. Was very dissapointed by that album and never really bothered with them since. Seen em live quite a few times in recent years and yeah well: Hey ho Galileo California sunshine sex .... Whatever ... Too bad but good for them I suppose
