I saw Smile Empty Soul, Thursday, Thrice, and Deftones open for them in 2003. Was truly fucking miserable standing thru that for the most part.
I'm so sorry. A very weird time for rock music. I'll never understand how Deftones gained traction...I think they're korny (sorry) as fuck; just awful.
Comparing Deftones to Korn and other shitty nu metal is like comparing GnR to Warrant. There’s a reason White Pony is considered by many to be a near masterpiece of an album. Frankly, I prefer Around the Fur, but that’s neither here nor there. Their latest album is also quite strong.

From White Pony ft. Maynard

From new album:

One of the best concerts I ever saw was Deftones on the Around the Fur tour with Snapcase opening. Who are a fucking powerhouse of hardcore in their own right.
I reminder reading an article in Kerrang just before White Pony came out and Chino said that he wanted the album to be like Jane’s, in the sense it would take you on a journey, spin you around then take you somewhere new. I liked that he got it, even if I didn’t really dig his band.

Jane’s used to get name checked all the time in those days, by such a wide range of artists. They were so influential!

Street Sweeper in 09 was okay… I guess it was cool Tom Morello was part of the tour.

Live opened for them in 2001, and didn’t Courtney Love do a few dates that tour?
Courtney Love/Hole opened for Janes for the infamous 2001 Oct 27th Universal Amphitheater show where Love lived up to her rep, refusing to get off the stage after their set until she was physically carried off by roadies delaying Jane's set by an hour resulting in a couple songs being cut from their set.

Aside from Lollapalooza '91, I never saw Janes have an opening act between '88 - '90. When I saw them with Flea at the '97 ENIT fest in San Francisco, they had Goldie who was stupidly loud and some knucklehead reading poetry. Janes should have been opening for NIN in 2009.

They certainly should have. However, kudos to Trent for having so much respect for the fact that it was OG Janes.

That knucklehead was Ken Kesey and he was awesome! He wrote One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Didn't you see his bus parked out in front of the venue?

:lolol:

Kesey, who was widely considered a seminal link between the beats and the hippies, would be very amused to be called a knucklehead.

Sometimes A Great Notion is also a classic of his, and one of my favorite books.

I didn't notice. As I recall, it was raining that night. My buddy and I got inside as fast as we could.

Pixies opened for them on the Ritual tour.
I had Suicidal Tendencies for the Ritual shows I saw. Had long forgotten about that.

("I had" - perhaps not the best choice of words)

Wasn't this at the Hollywood Bowl, or did it happen twice. There, she refused to get off and called out PF by name. They cut the power on the band and took her off. I was amused, but actually really impressed by Hole. Added bonus was Pete guested at this show.

You're right, it was the Hollywood Bowl. Brain fart.

So a couple of artists are opening for Jane's on this upcoming tour...L.A. Witch and Damnage.
I never heard of LA Witch but they seem interesting.

Pretty cool. Avery probably recommended!

They name checked The Gun Club as a big influence, so they must be alright :thumb:
Who/what is Damnage? An old hardcore punk band, or a DJ? Googled and can’t find out for sure.

I wish I would have known more about Ken Kesey (RIP) at the time of this show, I was young and hadn't read the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test yet.

I believe some of the Merry Pranksters were there too that night if I'm remembering right.
