I enjoyed listening to the RHCP albums that JK played on upon their release. But I haven’t really gone back to them. The minute Frusciante had left the band for a second time, I wanted Dave back with them. I would’ve been much happier with two followup albums to One Hot Minute than what we got with JK in the band.

Say what you will about Dave and what he has or hasn’t done during his career from the late 90s onward….but JK NEVER recorded anything close to what Dave did with the original era of Jane’s.

If Jane’s records without Dave, I’m all ears…but it won’t be Jane’s Addiction…just like how it wasn’t without Eric. You can argue that it may end up being closer than what they did without Eric…but it still won’t be Jane’s without the “original” four members.
I’m actually loving whatever this new thing is, bus without Dave, it’s not Jane’s. Would be like bauhaus without Daniel Ash.
Bauhaus is one of those bands that ABSOLUTELY does need all four members. The Misfits are another one, drummer aside, so I guess that’s false, actually. Definitely Bauhaus though, yes.

I am not sure why this feels more like Jane’s, to me, than before? It just does.
When they were playing with DN, but with bass player, it felt like they were dangerously close to playing at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, at 6 and 830, for free. They brought it back. Good for them.

I think it’s Perry and Eric reconnecting and they are laying the foundations for the vibes we have right now.

That’s not dismissing Dave or Stephen, but this entire 3.0 thing was broke with Perry asking Eric to come over and Jam and it’s flowed very since.

There is an urgency to this run of things and exciting and weird and strange.

Dave’s absence is only adding to it.

I’m legit shocked they debuted a new song. Nothing about this feel managed or scripted or planned.

Had the same thought- always wanted a proper studio version closer to how they played it during 1.0

I hope they do. Along with Suffer Some and Slow Divers. And if Dave can participate, get Perry to add vocals to San Francisco. Why the hell not at this point?

It’s a shame there was never an actual record with those songs along with trip away, chip away, one percent, whores etc- could’ve been a good first record

Late notice and all, but I've got an extra ticket to Vegas tomorrow/today (still up, so I consider it Saturday). Just a floor ticket, nothing fancy.

That sounds incredible. Contrast it to this performance from 2016: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHRAkDBaC9Q. The difference in energy is wild.

That difference is absolutely wild. 2016 sounds to my ears what modern Janes sounds like. These 3.0 shows sound almost like 1.0, especially when Perry’s voice holds up. I’m kind of dying to see this band again. I haven’t felt that way in 20 years. I remember skipping a 2003 show down the street from my house.

Now we need to see Of Course.

Thanks for the reviews, Rick and PB!
It always surprised me throughout the years that whenever a poll or something on these boards came up a lot of Jane's fans considered Obvious a throway song. I never did.
Then recently I was talking to some younger people in their 20's and they told me although they don't like Jane's at all, they do love that one song Obvious. They said they love the atmosphere. Go figure.

Crazy how much more energy they have now. They are killing it stone dead on these shows!

I have always loved that one. Kind of considered it a hidden Jane’s gem. Never thought it translated very well live though.

Years before Song Yet To Be Sung, Of Course demonstrates Perry's affinity and/or complex feelings for his Jewish roots. The song has a Klezmer feel, with Chassidic niggun (wordless melodies) sprinkled throughout.
