I think it does feel a bit dated.

I’m 1993 when I saw P4P, they had the half naked fire breathing girl and I was like 16 and it felt edgy.

The dancers being a part of the Jane’s Addiction show has always felt as if it was A) a way to involve Etty and friends, and B) an older persons idea of what edgy burlesque/sexy might be

In 2008 when I saw the reunion my GF/soon to be wife she thought it was super cheesy and goofy.

In 2024, the sexual revolution has happened … a few times and scantily clad dancers on stage now feels out of place.

There’s a massive difference between feeling that it is dated (I’m with you) as opposed to being offended by it and worrying that it will corrupt the impressionable youth of today. :lolol:

People go to strip clubs to see naked 20 year olds, not naked 60 year olds.

For some reason, Etty Farrell doesn't understand this.

I'm sure Perry knows, but doesn't have the heart to deprive his wife of her income and ability to feel like she contributes to the household completely independent of Perry (lol).

Wow, I know they are there, I guess?
But I’ve never given it that much thought?
Especially since the group has been killing it these days.

Totally get what she's saying. I'd be confused by male strippers and would be distracting. It is an appeal to rockers, or just a tribute from the JA males to feminine beauty. I understand her argument though. And her assessment of JA 1.0 is spot on. Having said that, I think all are convincing sexually

Jane’s was literally doing the same thing in 1991, only more extreme/“pornographic”.

I did notice that she and the rest of the dancers are wearing the nude color coverups on their ass (like Hooters girls) possibly to hide cottage cheese?.. Etty still looks good to me or if you are into that asian milf thing.

Yeah, the weird thing is saying Janes is your favorite band and not knowing they’ve been doing this since 1.0. Additionally, I don’t feel like it’s being done in a “pole dancer” kind of way. Perry has always professed his admiration for women and their beauty. It feels like an artistic (you can debate the talent involved all you like) display of feminine sexuality more so than “heh, strippers.” That said, I understand how it could seem that way. But I do disagree.

When I saw them open for Pumpkins they were slithering around the scaffolding behind the drum riser.

Unless something has changed, women in their underwear are still straddling poles.

With that said... it could be worse. Haha

This is such a trendy argument of entitled people. The dancers are not doing anything vile, or disrespectful. I’m sure everyone is going to be down on me, for saying or thinking whatever, but really? Would this even be a concern say 10 years ago? And what has changed? Someone said earlier in the thread, we are all old JA fans, right? Some dancers on the stage bother you now??? Sounds fishy to me, at least it reads that way? Feel free to help me understand, but I don’t think you can. I think it has more to do with people not liking the dancers personally, or whatever, perhaps??? Maybe???

I think culture is simply changing very fast—faster than most people are comfortable with.

I get we’re all old, and “should” know what the deal is — but 🤷‍♂️

They are a bit of an outlier. It’s not a scantily clad woman on lead vocals feeling empowered and singing about that.

I think in 2023 it might like like it’s more objectifying than anything else.

I might not agree, but you need to read the room

Even if it wasn’t Etty, and it was 20 year olds —the backlash would be insane because you’ve have old men rocking out with young women.

It’s probably a no win situation and the current act is as safe/sexy as can be — probably has a lifespan though

I completely understand, but jeez… there are much more important, damaging things to worry about, than people dancing onstage with a band. And I completely do think, that to some degree, it is about who the dancers are. It’s just that no one wants to admit it.

It seems like we are currently living in the most uptight, puritanical era since the 1950s. This is not something to be embraced. If this is “where it’s at”; I consider myself proud to not be with it and not getting with the times. This is the kind of pearl-clutching that the original band fought against.

As for the argument of “objectification”…anyone with any ounce of sexual desire does it, whether they admit to it or not. This silliness is rooted in the religious puritanism that shamed people for their sexual liberation and the normalization of contraception and the pill, public nudity, pornography, premarital sex, homosexuality, masturbation, alternative forms of sexuality, and the legalization of abortion.

Fuck the current mentality; it’s a slippery slope.

I took my two teenage boys to the recent Bakersfield show, and they loved the women up there. So there you go - the youth still like women with less clothing on.

The Jane's live act with the dancers became stale a while ago. I felt it was kind of a crutch, they might not wow you with their music anymore but check out the eye candy.

Sooooooooo all of this from a young woman who says she didn't enjoy the dancers and was disappointed? :lolol: People have the right to not care for that aspect of the show & while I get what you're attempting to say I don't think it's that deep and to be honest as others have said the dancers have BEEN stale for years...honestly I have no real dog in the fight but I feel sometimes like we are inundated with sexual imagery, expression etc and I have NO IDEA what puritanical times you're talking about...have you seen a rap video lately? Hell the song Wet Ass P***y was a BIG hit on commercial radio...

I'm glad to see that a woman cared to say it did bother them and they felt it was unnecessary to make the show a good one... let's stop shitting each other, should they STILL BE DOING THE STRIPPER THING 30 plus years later??? Perry ain't even got the same teeth

Culture SHOULD CHANGE...I don't like the same shit as I did when I was 15, and honestly if you know, you know... I am NO prude with all the famous booty gifs I used to post, but I grew out of it and if you enjoy that aspect of a Jane's show that's cool, I never did cuz those girls were always way too skinny but regardless no one said throw some clothes on em she said it felt cheap & from 60 something year old Perry it kinda does, it's not edgy anymore and guess what else? Women more than ever SHOULD speak up when something like this hits the wrong way...clearly there's a very strong effort to control women's rights today & this is NOT THAT but I don't take issue with a female saying something along these lines...if she was saying CANCEL it would be different...calm down killer
