New Album Producer

#1 Post by Tyler Durden » Mon Jun 26, 2023 4:20 pm

Who do you want to see produce the new album?

I’d go with Matt Hyde.

I would hope they’ve asked Dave Jerden but probably someone like Andrew Watt will get involved

I don’t get why Andrew Watt is suddenly popular with aging alt rock stars. :noclue:

I suspect Watt is easy to work with, gets along with people, has good ideas, fosters good ideas from bands, has a proven track record.

I wouldn’t mind him — I’d just like to avoid too much modern production and compression

Bob Ezrin.

But if he’s unavailable, Jerden.

Sounds about right, and ditto on the digital Botox.

The band doesn't have a record deal so I wouldn't be surprised if they produce it themselves.

They don’t have a record deal that we’re aware of. Even if they don’t currently have one, Perry has enough clout and the band’s name carries enough weight that they likely can get whoever they want.

Perry talked on the Aussie podcast about the band releasing new music themselves due to not having a record deal.

Does the band pay for a producer? Maybe.

Ken Andrews.

If you want a guy who can properly mix heavy and spacey, that's your dude.

If Strays or TGEA sounded like Fantastic Planet instead of being so polished we probably would have enjoyed them more.

If Troy is involved Janes will be able to get Ken practically for free- that would be a great pick up

Someone who can mic and record a great drum sound, hopefully.

Tony Visconti, Steve Albini or Butch Vig would be interesting. Youth might be in their ballpark. No ear bleeders like Brendan O'Brien or Tim Dalgety though. Brian Eno would be incredible even if the band's new material sucked.

Considering Eric's connection to Garbage, Vig might not even be a very far fetched idea.

Maybe just get the guys in a room with a Neve board and let them gel again and see what happens.

Trent hasn't made a decent album since 2005.

That’s a bit generous.

But that soundtrack work.

Id be into Trent again. He wasn’t trying to “trentitize” them last time around, and he did probably the best job of producing Perry’s vocals post 1.0. Then again, that’s not that hard to do considering he just added a ton of delay.

I'd be curious to try Rick Rubin, how Janes sound with him behind the desk.

Didn't know that. I have heard a few times EA can't stand him

Rubin is never “behind a desk,” and rarely even in the studio. His engineers ruin the records on his behalf.

Rick hated Jane’s in the early days, but was impressed by Daves mental chops.. tried to steal him for Danzig. No surprises they loath the guy. I remember someone asking Rubin ‘who’s the greatest guitar player you’ve ever worked with in the studio .. without hesitation he said. ‘Dave Navarro’ Joe Barassi also said the same.. said Dave absolutely blew his mind’

There’s a good choice for Jane’s - Evil Joe Barassi !!
