I'd be curious to try Rick Rubin, how Janes sound with him behind the desk.
That’ll never happen.. Perry hates Rubin with a passion
Didn't know that. I have heard a few times EA can't stand him
Rubin is never “behind a desk,” and rarely even in the studio. His engineers ruin the records on his behalf.
Rick hated Jane’s in the early days, but was impressed by Daves metal chops.. tried to steal him for Danzig. No surprises they loath the guy. I remember someone asking Rubin ‘who’s the greatest guitar player you’ve ever worked with in the studio .. without hesitation he said. ‘Dave Navarro’ Joe Barassi also said the same.. said Dave absolutely blew his mind’

There’s a good choice for Jane’s - Evil Joe Barassi !!

That’s a great one! I was gonna throw someone random out, like Dave Catching, but Joe would be awesome.

I worked with Joe way back in the 90s. Absolute gentleman and a great engineer, who’s legitimately a fan of music.. and as it happens.. a big Jane’s fan. I think he’d be a great choice.

I’m convinced the only band Rick Rubin can work with are Chili Peppers with Frusciante

This quote from Klinghoffer is laugh out loud funny

I think One Hot minute went pretty smoothly didn't it? ... other than Anthony's back and forth with drugs.

All I know is Rubin “produced” Danzig II: Lucifuge and it sounds fucking phenomenal. Even if it was his minions doing the grunt work, there are plenty of albums that were on Def American/American Recordings that sound great.

And Rein in Blood. Amazing production. Still, that Metallica one is awful. No fucking way I would want him on a new Jane’s album. The Brian Eno shout would be amazing. He would really encourage them to maximize space in the mix.

Agree. He’s done some absolute classics. Some of my favorite albums of all time. The 80s and early 90s and DITC by Mars Volta. But remember, it’s the great engineers that do the heavy lifting on these albums. Rubin has zero technical skills .. just has a great ear for bringing out the best in songs and trimming away the fat. He is also mega expensive.. his name on a record alone carries weight. Apparently he literally does fuck all these days.. rarely even shows up!!

Andy Wallace is another giant in great production !!

Ruin? Go on.
I have ears; no elaboration required.
Because of the totality of his non work? Been listening to Flea's podcasts lately and ended up listening to BSSM from start to finish...great stuff. I think his work with Cash was excellent, and I personally like the work with The Chicks and Run DMC.

What about Ronnie Champagne? He's still around at least on IG. Based on that Deconstruction interview series, he seems like he'd be up to the task.
