Where to begin, and what can I say that hasn’t been said? The band themselves were the best they’ve ever been. And my god, the extended jams and improvs??? With Perk, Pete, and fucking Watt? Those three pounding out new twists amidst these incredible songs was blowing my mind. They all look like they’re having the time of their lives.

Perry was seemingly somewhere else mentally. I’m worried for him. However, his being somewhere else brought a sense of the quieter, weirder, odd little movements on stage Perry back. I don’t love not seeing him smile a lot, but Porno was a darker band than I think people consider , and they felt like that band. Even if Perry’s voice was gone at times.

if you get a chance to go, go. I would be shocked if anyone regretted it, but I suppose that would depend on Perry on any given night. But even if just a watch, perk, Watt, and Pete play, it is worth every penny.

I was fortunate enough to get to hang with Pete, backstage a little bit after the show. I also met one of Perks former drum techs that was there to hang out. He said Perk has been stone cold sober for a few years now, and doesn’t even drink caffeine. But is more hyper than ever. That was on display backstage. He was walking around and cracking jokes and having a lot of fun.

I was one of a decent number of guests that Peter was hosting. I should’ve known. I can’t imagine there’s very many people on the planet that he doesn’t consider a friend.

He said that the band cant agree on the artwork for the new single, which is why it keeps getting pushed back. Now that they are on the road Perry has no time to worry about the art so the management is sending it and they don’t like what they’re being sent.

I could listen to Pete tell stories about Watt 10 hours a day every day. They elicit genuine belly laughs. Pete described him as an old sea pirate. Says Mike will not let him sleep. Ever. He said he’s asleep for a few hours, and then Watt starts yelling at him and shaking him and demanding he go get his guitar and practice with him. He also says he wakes up sometimes to Watt reading him books out loud about John Coltrane. Their relationship is so funny and so heartwarming to hear about. Watt comes across as almost mean in these stories, but you can tell how much Peter loves him and how everything Mike does is out of love.

Perry was very much off by himself, and not interacting with very many people that I could see. He was very quiet and demure. I’m not sure I’ve ever really seen him like this before.

The venue was absolutely incredible. Highly, highly recommended. Beautiful space and the sound was crystal clear.

That’s about all I can think of right now.

But if this is the last time Porno for Pyros ever tours, they went out with a bang, and you’ll be sorry you missed it. At times it was really hitting me that I was actually seeing this band again and that they actually sounded that damn good.

that’s awesome - I’m tempted to message Pete on IG and ask him to put me and Someguy on the guest list for Saturday
If you guys are friendly, I would go ahead. I would also expect a shit show if you do get on the list.

You realize real quickly each day’s production is held together with tape and staples. Lots of people that have no idea what’s going on, and Pete doesn’t know the rules for each individual venue. If I hadn’t felt comfortable enough calling him a few times to clarify where we were supposed to go on what we were supposed to be doing none of that would’ve happened.

Perry’s performances always suffer when he doesn’t appear very passionate about it.

I wonder if he’s basically doing the tour to round things off (and to make some money for Pete) but his head is already onto Jane’s.

I will assume anything Pete said in front of a large group to be shareable, even if some things feel private.

He said that himself, Perry, and Perkins are not taking pay on this tour.

I always remember when I’m around these guys how much they exist in their own universe. Their logic is not our logic, for better, or for worse.

Ok, this is newsworthy. With the exception of brand new bands sleeping in vans, this is crazy. Glad Watt is.

I'm sure with how tickets are selling and the way they tour and travel (full crew, nice hotels, most likely a separate bus for perry and etty) there probably isn't much profit if any.

Good for them to still do it and pay Watt.

I got to see the timing agenda for the concert.

It has them starting at 9:15 sharp and ending at 10:45 sharp. And they stuck right to it.

I'm sure it will vary from city to city but how many people do you think turn out? Like a 1000?

It does. And depends on the city/venue. I'm jealous of the smaller venues.

Chicago was a blast and had a much bigger crowd than Omaha. Both shows were fun even though they were essentially the same. I am happy I got to see P4P twice in my life and saw the vast majority of the self titled songs live, which gave me a new appreciation for the songs themselves (I always thought the first record lacked sonic diversity). The songs shine live right now. But I also can’t help but wish they would have been doing this periodically for the last 20 years.

Agreed. It’s a huge shame they wasted 20 years putting out bad product instead of working with both Janes and porno in a credible way, back and forth like they’re doing now. I’m glad the legacies are getting decent send offs. Could be worse. But Perry was listening to the wrong people for a very long time, and it’s a little gut wrenching to think what could have been.

Thanks man, I’m also glad.

Honestly, that was in my top few Perry shows. Granted, I’ve only been going since ‘96, but I was shocked at how much that felt like the 1996 porno show I saw. Obviously less weird and chaotic, but that’s just a fucking ridiculous group of players, and they’re better now than they were then. Perry being so weird on this tour helps, even if it impacts vocals and makes me worry a bit.

So I guess I'll give my writeup. Some miscommunication led to us hanging out front for a few hours, but ended up talking to one of Perkins' past drum techs for a good bit. Finally got our tickets and passes. Tigercub was pretty forgettable really. Not bad, but also nothing exciting. P4P really exceeded my expectations. As I told Pete backstage, there's bands that come off as "tired" or "end of life", last night was far from that. Perry seems to be hurting physically though. We saw him walking out as we left and he seemed stiff. So either knees or back I'd guess, but he's also 65, so such is life. The band was really on point last night, I came away impressed. A girl and her mother were next to me. The daughter was into Tigercub, but had checked out P4P beforehand and wanted to stay to watch them. Her mom told me she could tell by the daughter's face, that she was blown away by Pete's playing. They both really liked it. Not sure how well it sold since we moved up to the railing after Tigercub and I never looked back. Salt Shed was a nice venue, I'd definitely go back there if I'm interested in a show in Chicago. Highlights for me were Cursed Female, Cursed Male, Bloody Rag, and Bad Shit. Pete using the light tube as a bow was also badass.

Major thanks to Hoka for facilitating yesterday. A million thanks to Peter for being so accessible with his fans and an overly nice person. I could listen to Pete tell stories all day about anything. He gets so energetic and is genuinely funny as hell. Perkins popped in backstage for a minute last night and was super friendly as well. My first and probably last time seeing P4P and all in all it was pretty damn good.

Perry said recently he has back and knee issues as well as arthritis.

Have to wonder if his injury during the pumpkins tour was a turning point physically for him

Was happy to hang with a true head. Also crazy that I first met you in Chicago for Janes at Jubilee.

We also met one of Watts friends. Just a fan originally that let Watt crash with him at a show In Atlanta once. Now Watt stays with him anytime he’s anywhere near his house. Says he always sleeps on the floor or couch. Seemed like a really fucking cool guy. Had come all the way up from Atlanta just for the show.

Quite the collection of random friends and band associates there.

I ran into Watt's friend in the hotel elevator, said he never met up with Watt. I felt bad for him, not sure what the deal was there. I also ran into some of the dudes that were backstage with us as well, haha.

From everyone's descriptions I am starting to wonder if he was already dealing with some physical ailments, and then maybe blew his voice out in rehearsals and it put him totally in a funk.

Like imagine canceling this tour once already, trying to soldier on with some physical shit, and then you wreck your voice too.

He knows he has to follow through with the commitment but I am sure anyone would be bummed under those circumstances.

Perry’s performances always suffer when he doesn’t appear very passionate about it.

I wonder if he’s basically doing the tour to round things off (and to make some money for Pete) but his head is already onto Jane’s.

I think that’s the wrong way to look at it. He didn’t have to do this tour. He wanted to.

But yeah, something is clearly up with him. And in fairness, I felt like he was doing his best in Chicago. I didn’t feel like I was standing in front of someone just going through the motions.
