Sometimes I forget that Stern isn't retired.

Dude has really gone out of his way to become completely irrelevant in popular culture, it seems.

I enjoyed this. And especially enjoyed seeing the clip on Facebook where Stern was completely absent…cause I can’t stand him.

Thanks for the share! :thumb:

Thought it was a pretty solid performance. Bums me out a little more the very real likelihood no tour date will be coming my way now.

I hope they'll make a live album to celebrate this last run.

Sounds great. Which means it will never happen.

This for sure. Years ago people here were convinced Perk had been archiving live shows from the soundboard and vids in the early years. I would love to hear those if they exist. I'd also love the PFP Belasco show from a year ago. I am clueless on the particulars of the business end, but I presume live shows would be released if they were projected to make money. So why not make them available to hardcore fans individually at a price? The one's still propping them up would be rewarded and the genie in the bottle wouldn't eventually suffocate.

I think two things are missing from the equation for this to happen.

1. Someone within the band that is passionate about the legacy of the band and it’s relationship with his fan base that isn’t named Peter.

2. Someone with the technical know how to make it happen.

I think Perry has come around to caring about legacy but has a strange relationship with his fan base. Twenty years ago, I was always told he created quite the bubble to live within.

I think Perk just enjoys playing music and being able to pay his bills without much regard to who buys the albums/tickets.

I think Pete cares passionately about all of it but has no sway over the business side of anything.

Not that any of this is particularly unique insight into the band.

I remember reading about this on either 1% or xiola and I asked him about it before a Banyan show. He did say he has (or at least had at the time I asked him) recordings (didn't specify audio or video. I'm guessing just audio) of his early shows from when he started with the band. It might only be a handful of shows or it could be a majority of them. I didn't ask if he could give me an approximate number, because when I asked years later (I think this was either 2002 or 2003) I doubt if he would even know.

Maybe he will release them with a copy of the Three Days poem some day? :thumb:

Perry mentioned in that vinyl guide interview back in April that Stephen is the the defacto archivist for the band and that he has tons of board tapes from shows and even videos behind the scenes

Im also pretty sure he curated a cabinet of curiosities as well

There wasn't a lot of curation involved :hs:

Some demo tracks and a common live show, which was already included on Kettle Whistle. It's not that he went through his massive live collection to come up with that show :noclue:

There was a lot of work that went into that boxset that wound up being wasted effort (present-day band interviews, live show deep dives). The final product was a bust and doesn’t really say much about what Steve did or didn’t do, or what he has or doesn’t have.
