Has to be Martyn on bass. Unmistakable when everything kicks in. Drums could be more up front and defined.

I like how naturally weird it is.

I dig it, it was a slow build up but in general it was pretty good and not what I expected which is why I would want considering how long it's been since they've released anything new.

I like that it’s unusual and unexpected. Musically it evokes Orgasm and GGU (the song).

Perry’s opening lyrics and vocals… :essence:

This is one of the reasons I don’t hold out much hope for any new Jane’s material. Perry can’t be trusted anymore.

I don’t love the beginning either, but I think that last statement is a bit unfair considering the rest of the song. The more I listen to it the more I love it. Especially the second half of the song. It moves around in ways I’d have never expected. And it’s great. The ethereal vocal parts, the keys, the strings… for me, that second half is the best bit of music either band has done since GGU. Which is crazy to me. I’d have never thought I’d hear new music from either of them that brought me back to when I fell in love with their music. GGU was a formative record for me. I know it wasn’t for most. But I thought aspects of it were Beatles-esque. And the hippy surf shit mixed with that element of jazz punk Pete loves so much was an incredible cocktail. It dragged at times, but look at the title track. Or Porpoise Head. Those are are really fucking cool songs. I’d go on, but I’ve dissected the album a million times on here.

Anyway, I just couldn’t be happier this morning to have even a small bite of that again that still tastes sweet.

I like it.

This unexpected last flash from Porno has been a really nice surprise to me, having given up on Perry and co to move me again.

Thank you boys.

The first verse put me off a little too initially but now I’m into it. It’s just very idiosyncratic Perry.

Agree with those saying it's the best in decades. I'm diggin the calming rhythmic surf vibe of the first half. PF is well within his range, which usually a gift per se, but here his voice really contributes to the tonal foils going on. Love the piano and synth/strings add heroic depth and texture when they interlude. Love to know who played there...and who produced it? Someone mentioned the drums are burried, which usually bugs the f outa me, but I think the mix works really well here. I'm sure like so many other PFP songs, it would get a healthy punch in the face thing goin live. And Pete, keeping the PFP legacy alive with his playin and writing.....love those sig trills in the 2nd half.

I love that all of these songs recently released are so different from each other, yet so Porno! All of them are way better than they have any right to be after all this time.
Love the vibe of this, the breakdown, the jam out. And I would love to hear this live!

Musically I like it and you have to assume that Perry had a major influence on that.

But his vocals and lyrics (“oh break-ups they are the worst”) really bug me. When I say I can’t trust him, I mean I can’t trust him to not make me cringe and ultimately ruin new material for me.

That said, I think only Perry could write a sweeping song about love/getting older/regret and call it “Fingernail” 😂

He deserves credit for still keeping it weird.

I like it. Weird interesting little song. No problem with the lyrics. Kind of similar vibe to Mend, which I think is a very good song.
Thanks Boyz.

I asked Peter about the production because I was wondering the same thing.

“We all co produced it with Robert Stevenson.”

Robert Stevenson did the whole NHC record and demos last year with Janes- I would imagine he’s still in the picture now that Dave is back

This song makes me so fucking annoyed that we didn’t get 2-3 more PFP albums.

This would have sounded so righteous on vinyl as the last track on an album.

For me the best of the new three songs PFP put out is the Agua. Love that tune.

 :thumb:

They just need a spoofy/serious trailer with Perry and Etty in sunglasses to make it complete. :hehe:

Actually an alright tune. Like clickie, I find Agua better. Still goofy but more catchy. :noclue:

I like how Agua was sort of in the vein of GGU, Little Me was reminiscent of S/T, and that Fingernail is just completely new territory for them.

i'm not as enthusiastic.

There are some markers of P4P sound in the 3 songs, ok, but i won't add them to any of my playlists.

Just a big fuckin thx from me. Main players didn't take a cut on the tour. Just incredible songs for the diehards...I am actually impressed with PF's behavior in all this. PFP does not make money. Organizational mishaps and whatever infighting with "art" etc....thank you all from the bottom of my heart. If you do any more, I'll hope to love them too.
