The Jane's Album that Could Have Been

I know Sonny did this on Xiola once, complete with the MP3s to make the album, but I think about this often. The 4th proper Jane's album could have really been something else. Obviously not all of these songs were fleshed out at the time.

Definites...?

Suffer Some
Iris
Slow Divers
Kettle Whistle
City
Maceo

Maybes....?

So What
Bad Shit
Blood Rag
Packin .25
Hardcharger (I refuse to believe this wasn't carried over from the Jane's era)

Could have been pretty special.

I've posted this before... some have liked it, some have not.

But I think this is pretty close to what another "original Jane's" album could've sounded like:

Jane's Deconstruction - San Francisco Whores

I'm in love with this track.

I like that a lot, and it isn't one of my favourite Jane's songs.

Would Maceo have made it on to the album? I'm very fond of it but from quotes I've seen I think of it as something they did for fun more than for future use on an album. Maybe a b-side?

Maceo is an AWFUL song. City is a b side throw away. Blood rag is horrible song.

A better Jane's album circa 93 would have been:

Sadness
Suffersome
Whores
Meija
Cursed Female
Good Gods Urge
Pets
So What
Hard Charger
Chip Away

I agree with bman, "Maceo", "Blood Rag" and "City" aren't good enough to have been on the hypothetical Jane's album that could have been. "Blood Rag" is probably my least favorite P4P song...unless "Hot Lava" counts as P4P - which I really hope it doesn't.

Pretty good list, there. :thumb:

Just a reminder - Blood Rag was a Jane's tune, and there's a recording of JA 1.0 playing it live in the middle of Pigs in Zen.

Huh, I never knew that! Cool...I learned something about Jane's today that I didn't know! Regardless, I still think Blood Rag ain't so hot. In fact, now knowing it was written by Jane's 1.0 I can pretty safely say I'll put it in the bottom barrel of Jane's songs. I like Maceo and City more than Blood Rag  It's just too repetitive for me, rhythm-wise.

Right. This is based on actual history (minus Hardcharger, although there's been SOME debate on how old it was).

All three of the below were discussed as originating during the Jane's era in terms of the music. Of course they may have been different lyrically, but every song I listed had it's origins during Jane's original run.

Blood Rag
Bad Shit
Packin .25

thanks for that link. the first entry on the list is this:
* There was apparently a little bluesy number Perry and Eric did together very early in Jane's existence called "Let Me In My House." (this is likely a cover song)

any idea if a recording or any lyrics for that ever existed anywhere. i just wonder if its the thelonoius monster song ' let me in the house'. that's a total blues riff and the era is just about right. bob forrest certainly hung out with those guys. (eric played bass in a few bicycle thief shows opening for they might be giants, right?)

1. Grapefruit Size
2. Fucking in space...with a nurse
3. 4 Days is better than 3
4. Hip Hop Hooray
5. Had a Band
6. ✡fucker
7. Just confess it, Fuhrman
8. Ain't no roomservice
9. This Amex bill is shocking

for me, as heartbreaking as a never-was Ritual or GGU follow up is a never-was Why Something Instead of Nothing follow up..

Jig
Mystery Bear
Gone
NuBong
Straw
Green
Ordinary
Daytime
Things To Do When I'm Dead
Satellites
Superzero

..that would be a damn fine album right there just of Polarbear leftovers.

What is this? Did you do it yourself? Me likey.

Edit: Nm, I see it's a mash-up with Iris. Still cool

Yup... made it when they released the multi-tracks of the Reznor sessions :thumb:
