JA had to cancel 12/7 Jane's show

#1 Post by JOEinPHX » Tue Dec 06, 2011 12:44 pm

A "Perkins family emergency"

First Hawaii, now this.

I feel bad for them, they can't even play half of the 5 shows they actually booked this year.

if anyone was going to go, The Joy Formidable and The Naked & Famous are still playing the show without Jane's, and it's now a free show.

Both bands are amazing, and highly worth seeing.

I so wish i was in Las Vegas right now.

The Joy Formidable are awesome. Huge sounding neo-shoegaze with strong pop hooks (and noise). The Naked & Famous are OK. The single is catchy as hell, but they are likely a one-or-two trick pony.

Not a one-or-two trick pony at all. The album is pretty awesome from start to finish, it's got poppy songs like Young Bloody and Punching in a dream, and songs that even sound like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails. Those guys are all over the place stylistically and it's amazing.

Hmm. I'll listen again. Forgive my natural suspicion of any new band that gets airplay on consolidated commercial radio.

Oh I am the same way. I got lucky that my first experience with them was a youtube video suggested by Danny Lohner (formerly) from NIN.

It wasn't till after I had the album that i noticed they were blowing up on radio. Good for them though, they are actually pretty interesting. It's not all bubblegum, in fact they put out 2 EPs prior to the album that were pretty much just garage rock.

TNAF are a great band. There's indeed more to them than Young Blood (even though that's a great song). Saw them live earlier this year and the really deliver. Really curious what the future will bring for this band. Although I don't entirely agree, one review of their album said that Trent Reznor wished his new project How To Destroy Angels sounded like this

Nope. Perk, Chaney, and Perry all have kid(s)

Dave is the only one who doesn't (that he knows of! zing!)

My info came from Eric's wife in a conversation during NiNJA in 2009. Maybe Perk has had a kid since
then?

Chaney has two kids, a son and a daughter.

Anyway, all the best for the Perk and his family.

The radio station issued a statement saying "Our hearts and minds go out to Jane's Addiction band members and their families during this difficult time."

Doesn't sound good.

And I guess Dave Tweeted it's a Perkins family emergency?

Hope it's nothing too serious, especially if Perk does indeed have a little one now.

That sucks big time.

The one positive is that I'm intrigued Perkins knows Tony Franklin. I wonder if they've collaborated on anything. I Love Franklin's playing especially when he was in The Firm with Jimmy Page and later with guitarist John Sykes in Blue Murder.

That fretless stuff with The Firm always bugged me. But I am still very sorry to hear about Stephen's dad.
