Man it's depressing to go back and look at that. I don't think I've ever been more excited for anything musically in my entire life than that era for Jane's Addiction. The liner notes and packaging for Kettle whistle were absolutely outstanding.

Those discogs entries are only for the various CD iterations of Strays, some that included the bonus DVD (which I have). The DualDisc is so rare, it doesn't even have an entry in discogs.

I believe it was only released in a extremely limited run of about 1,000 discs as part of a West Coast test marketing run of the first 15 DuaDisc titles released in that format. What makes this release so special aside from the limited run is this release includes the regular CD on one side of the disc and a HiRes stereo and 5.1surround mix of the album on the other side. It's the only way to get a dynamically intact version of the album (other than the original vinyl release) as the standard CD stereo mix was brickwalled by Vlado Meller.

I stupidly passed on a copy years ago in Amoeba Record's used bins for something like $40 and have never seen one since. This seller on eBay has one that's been for sale for years and has been the only copy I've seen for sale online, but yeah, no one's gonna spend nearly $500 for that one.

The original "deluxe" release that included the bonus dvd had three live songs from pre-Strays shows, Strays, Just Because from an LA club show and Suffer Some from the Wiltern Theater New Years Eve show I (and I think KV) saw at the end of 2002. Also, a stills montage set to "The Riches" and two short documentaries on the filming of the "Just Because" video and recording the album. I think the "enhanced" CD just included the "Making of Just Because music video" (as a quicktime video).

haha you mentioning newspapers reminded me of a friend from high school.

He was a Led Zeppelin baby, raised on their music from having three older brothers, one of them a drummer always practicing in the basement.

So anyway our school library stored all old newspapers for historic purpose, and my friend took the one from 1980 with John Bonham's obituary and tore out the article along with some pictures and framed them on his wall.

.org mentioned there was no XXX Longboxes made of this cd. i remember awhile ago discussing i had this but didn't come to a conclusion to how it got out there
