Not all of us got to see them with Eric in a small club. I'm settling for it being my second small club show. If this was in a large venue I'd probably skip it. As it is, I'll be in the pit.
I must be getting old. The thought of being in "the pit" sounds terrible to me. I am so pleased that my $67.50 ticket is a comfortable seat and no standing around for 3 hours before the show starts. :oldtimer:
.
 i feel the same exact way and I'm 20
Yeah, fuck "the pit". I have a front row SEAT.

no one wants to see Duff, the 3 worst songs on the album are the ones he wrote.

Well, i am old too :oldtimer: but seeing Jane's from a seat???? No way. I need to be as close to the stage as possible.
I wouldn't be able to sit down for a second during a Jane's show.

the one thing i like about seats is that is guarantees you that a complete stranger will not arrive late and attempt to occupy the space between your asscheeks.

And any clown in the seat in front of you that tries to film the WHOLE CONCERT with a phone doesn't necessarily make you want to kill them horribly.

To me, it depends on the show and the company...

The first time I saw Faith No More I bought seats, because I was going with my then-girlfriend, who was 5'2''. The 2nd time I went with a friend and, of course, we went to the pit. And for Paul McCartney, nothing justified standing in line for hours to be standing for 3 more hours.

To me, the pit must have energy. In Chile, the audience in the pit is pretty much jumping and singing throughout the entire show. That wasn't going to happen with McCartney, so I just bought a seat.

Any other band, yes.

But the thought of sitting during a Jane's show just sounds like blasphemy to me. What attracted me to them was the chaos and punk attitude. When I finally got to see Perry perform at a Porno for Pyros show, in a tiny club, it felt like we were going to tear the walls down. By the time they encored with Mt. Song it felt like being in the middle of a riot. It was at the time the best night of my entire life. Had you told me then that 16 years later (oh my god im old) I'd be seeing Jane's Addiction (!!!!) in a similarly small club and would intentionally choose balcony seats over the pit I'd have laughed in your face.

I considered it, but I'd almost rather not go than not participate. It just goes against everything that got me in to this band.

Oh, I have never seen JA in a small venue, The venue I'm seeing them in is about 2700 capacity.
Dontcha remember when we were all heading to NINJA in Vegas and it was one of the few NINJA shows with a pit...
We all collectively (ok maybe just me & creep) hoped the NIN fans weren't too crazy because we might fall and break a hip :oldtimer:

I still go to plenty of GA shows however I am too old to bumrush the doors to get to the rail or stand dead in the middle where they start moshing...
I'm more the saunter in when I'm good & ready after the doors open, get a drink and stand near the sound board person.

I'll just have to hope that everyone there is an old bastard like me (likely) or that all this time in the gym pays off. I finally get to be 'that guy" in the mosh pit!

I kid I kid...

You haven't been to enough reserved admission shows then.

It usually happens at outdoor shed shows (like Irvine/Verizon Amphitheater), but about 75% of any reserved seat shows I take in, there's always someone, or even a group of someones who either think I'm mistakenly in "their seat" or think they can just "squeeze in" my seat standing next to me or a seat near me that's clearly not theirs in the middle of a show. The problem gets exponentially worse the better the seat and the more booze has been consumed by the offending party.....

The last time I had seats at the venue Im seeing this janes show at was for Modest Mouse, and the whole show some guy was grinding himself against the hand rail on the stairs next to me.

When i saw them in 2003 there was no waiting or standing at line for hours at all (maybe cause JA isn't that popular in Germany) you can easily stand around outside, have a drink and walk to the front just before they started playing. Plenty of space, it was full but not crowded. There was a mosh pit but it was all good and healthy  mainly people around my age....Standing on Dave's side - amazing. Venue size around 1500.

The 2003 show in KC was about a 1k capacity venue. Plenty packed. Pretty wild. Some guy took issue with me for some reason and was about to muscle up on me when Esqfool grabbed him and flung him through the crowd. I was like "damn, thanks bro."

When Jane's played NYC in October I was right up front against the stage for the first time in my life. It was an awesome experience, but by the time my ribs were crushed and some 6'4 muscle head stage dived and almost kicked me in the face I knew that I was not meant for that experience ever again.

I usually don't get messed with at shows, being that I'm a well-sized guy. That being said, the only demographic that usually messes with me are small feisty females that think they can bully their way in front of me.

A perfect example of this was the NINJA Tampa show. My wife, a couple of friends and I were up at the rail, stage-right, for all three sets. During the NIN set, a girl (of the drunken twat variety) decided that she wanted to get in front of me. Instead of asking, she reached around, deathgripped my manbits, and proceeded to try and pull me from my spot by my bits clawclutched in her fist. Fun times.

After the 2 Irving Plaza shows and Atlantic City show I was bruised all over my arms and shoulders! Hit the ground hard once too! Well worth it though.

I usually go to shows and get down in the crowd as well and while I'm not huge by anymeans because of all the surgeries and what not I'm always doped up so it doesn't bother me either way and even without that my pain tolerance is crazy if I want to stay in a spot no one is going to move me. Guess its all the years of playing rugby still taking their tole on me.

when I was in my 20's....yea it was cool.
when I was in my 30's...yea it was cool.

In my early 40's....still cool but getting on my nerves.

Now on the later shade of my 40's I'm too fucking old to get into that shit.

I also don't get dudes my age who get really drunk at shows. We ain't kids anymore. That crap was fun 20 years ago. Now not so much. And I realize for some people that might be the only show they go to...and a night away from the wife & kids & dog & white picket fence, but considering I go to 10X more shows a year than the drunk fucktard I have less patience for drunk people. :oldtimer:

I'm sure I've related the incident at the 4/21/89 JAF Janes show I caught where I was right at the front of the stage in the pit and some crazy-ass bitch decided the best way to get in front of me was to bite me really fucking hard on my arm just below my shoulder. She got a taste of elbow too.

I do remember this being recounted. I've seen ladies piss on people's feet as well to gain spots. You ladies and your creativity.....

I've got several years and hundreds of concerts under my belt working security in pits for all manner of shows from Slayer (including the War at the Warfield DVD shoot) to Pink and though I haven't done security in many years, if I go in to a pit it's kind of second nature to regulate shit, as it were.

That, and the fact that I REALLY don't like other peoples' sweat on me, is why I don't go in to pits unless for some odd reason my job requires it...

One time, during a RHCP show, I felt that somebody was pulling my then-long hair really hard, I tried to pull back and then just threw a punch to the origin of the pull. After punching the culprit and freeing my from the grab, I looked and saw it was a girl who was being dragged to the back of the pit and decided that my hair was the best she could hold on to.

Her face right after my punch was priceless.

There were some strange birds at the 2 Irving plaza shows. Smelly, raggedy looking dudes who came in real late and were pushing a lot. Got pretty rough. I saw some chicks up front with bloody noses. Then there was some DOUCHEBAG at the Atlantic City show. He was there with his woman and I think he said he was from California. He insisted on being close to the front but then threw a hissy fit anytime other people tried to move up. Even during the show when space opens up. It was so funny watching this prick yell at people and actually put his fists up in there! If you cant handle some people bumping into you then don't go up front at a Janes Show!
