What made your day today?
Re: What made your day today?
Thank you guys!
It just means that getting my PhD is getting closer, creep. And that what I worked for 3 years was worth getting published

Looks likely my employer will let me keep my job and work remote from AZ....which means we can afford to buy instead of renting...which makes me happy.

What more did you get?Pandemonium wrote: + Found a bunch of vary rare, near minty records at a local estate sale including U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind (which goes for $150+ via collectors) for $10 a piece.

Re: What made your day today?
Yikes, that was 3 months ago.... Off the top of my head, in addition to the U2 album, I grabbed an early pressing of Pink Floyds Animals and The Final Cut (which I turned around and sold), a super clean 1st issue of Bowie's Station to Station (my original is played to death), The Damned' "Another Great Record (Best Of)," a bunch of Big Country and Iron Maiden 12" singles and a few Springsteen vinyl bootlegs. Rifling through a couple crates of records and finding the U2 album in that box made my heart skip a beat, those things are so hard to find. Whoever originally bought the records took real good care of them and had all of them in plastic sleeves. They had a *lot* of vintage stereo gear in the garage, but nothing I was willing to take a chance on. It was weird, a very old couple was selling almost everything in the house for what sounded like one of their adult kids who maybe died. I drove by the street a couple times during the day thinking "lol, drek sale" and finally decided to stop and have a look. Since then, thinking luck would repeat itself, I've gone to a couple similar local sales I'd find on Craigslist and they've all been crap fests.Mescal wrote:What more did you get?Pandemonium wrote: + Found a bunch of vary rare, near minty records at a local estate sale including U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind (which goes for $150+ via collectors) for $10 a piece.

Aaaaah, Animals. Great album.
I suppose it’s always like that. If it looks interesting, everybody’s on it ... so you’re always late ☺
You actually like U 2?

Most so-called estate sales and typical yard/garage sales are junk fests the moment the sellers get their crap out for sale. I'm not the kind of person that likes to spend time rummaging through random stuff looking for that one "thing." A few times a year, I'll do a record/cd swap meet but even that, if a seller has hundreds of records stuffed in no order in boxes, I'll skip his table. Discogs and eBay have pretty much spoiled me when it comes to looking for music on physical media.Mescal wrote:I suppose it’s always like that. LOL, yeah, probably even more than Larry although I'll readily admit they've taken a big creative slide the last 10 - 15 years. They're probably among the top 3 bands I've seen upwards of around 20 times dating back to 1981.Mescal wrote:You actually like U 2?

Congrats Perkana on your hard work!
Rain made my day today- beautiful, beautiful rain.
That and my eldest came to get my little one to hang out together today- he is teaching her some more computer programming and setting her up better for the future than the common core crap her school is!
It's the little stuff that makes me happy.
That is so awesome! You must be a highly valued employee. I would give anything to have a telecommute job!Everybody's Friend wrote:Looks likely my employer will let me keep my job and work remote from AZ....which means we can afford to buy instead of renting...which makes me happy.

Thank you, Squee!
It definitely looks like I will be defending my thesis next month. Right now I'm filling in all the paperwork. I'm stupid, I messed up on a paper, hope there won't be any problem. I just hate it that I have to go in person to get authorization to correct it (wonder why it can't be done online).

I used to be able to read the whole thing from home, but now I can only see the figures. I can see the whole thing thru my university's ip.

That's pretty wild. I've been listening to BABYMETAL almost nonstop since I saw them on Colbert. They are playing in San Francisco on July 14th, which is 1 week after my birthday, but I can't afford the cost of traveling down from Oregon for the show. Since I won't be able to see them, I did the next best thing and bought these instead.
I had been limiting those things to Game of Thrones only, but when I saw that they made BABYMETAL POP's too, I had to get them

Re: What made your day today?
Took a mini vacation this weekend, but didn't really start to enjoy it until got back home at 5PM. That's a love/hate. Why does the party tide roll at the end of a Sunday?
Re: What made your day today?
Overheard the best conversation on the subway today. I wasn't eavesdropping; the three men talking were rather loud. I think they were American. For real.. One of them had a southern accent, and the other two sounded like they were from Chicago or somewhere around there. Anyway, they were talking about vasectomies, on-line dating, living together before marriage, then office gossip about the hot colleague who has no credibility because she dresses too sexy for anyone to take her seriously. He then gave an example of a meeting where the woman wore a jacket like a suit jacket but had on a "sports bra type thing" underneath, and when she leaned over the table you could see down to her belly button. I didn't hear more after that because I had to get off. I wonder what the next topic was..
