baby
Don't think I've told you, but my girlfriend's pregnant.
She's having her contractions as we speak (+- 10 min intervals), so we'll be heading to the hospital pretty soon.
So, by tomorrow I'll be a dad.
My first kid, a son, and I'll give you all a scoop, his name is Lewis :)
I'll post some pics later on!

Congratulations! I hope you got all your sleep in because you will never sleep the same for a very long time.
I'm awaiting my second (not me personally, but you know) She's due in the next 10 days or so.

Wow, congratulations, Mescal!! I had no idea... best wishes for you and your girlfriend, I hope everything goes perfectly :)
And the same goes for good ol'Bandit... I can (and can't) imagine the joy of welcoming a new little creature...
I will most likely never have kids, but my third niece is due within a month... her mother is already wishing it's over. Her hands and feet are terribly swollen and it's 31 ºC in Santiago. Must not be very pleasant.
Oh, so much joy

Congratulations, Mescal. It's true what they say: your life is about to change forever. I'm a father of two children and I haven't had a descent night of sleep since the day the first one was born.

So very true. But I wouldn't change it for the world. It's pretty incredible how much you change when you become responsible for another person. Well, most people. The smallest things can provide immeasurable happiness. We picked out a new Elmo video game for his DS and it came in the mail today. He was STOKED and my day was made.

Re: baby
Is everyone here expecting a second one soon, because I am also.
My wife had our first child in July of 09. It's been the best thing to ever happen to me.
I remember talking about it on xiola a few weeks before he was born. I made a thread asking if anyone knew some good games to play becauase I was taking seven weeks off with my wife and son. Pandemonium told me I was on crack and I'd never have a second to play those games. And yes, he was right. Sleep any chance you get!
Congrats.

Re: baby
First, congrats.
I'm going to dissent a bit here. Sure things get altered, but I didn't lose a great deal of sleep. The one variable that is out of your control are the sleeping patterns of your child. Mine fought sleep at all costs, but when he did go down, he was down. Nap time when the sun was still shining required a car ride around the block, and voila....out.
And not that it's been mentioned, but young children are not expensive either. Pre-school costs a mint is your inclined that way, but I've found that once you start to introduce kids into the concept of independence things get a bit pricey. For mine it was around 11-12 when he was invited east to congress with a scholarship society....air fare, hotels, pre-paid cell, etc.
Anyhoo.....ENJOY! The beauty for me was not being able to tell the difference between teaching him and being taught by him!

Haha, Mescal and I both speak Dutch. I said: don't worry, it will be all worth it. I wasn't reffering to what you were thinking at all.Larry B. wrote:totally uncalled for...pandarve666 wrote:dik

Totally agree with this. A lot of my friends without children suddenly become experts on all things child related when we talk about it. "They're too expensive" being one. Bullshit. You don't actually lose any money, because what you spent on social life before now just goes gets spent on your offspring.SR wrote: And not that it's been mentioned, but young children are not expensive either.

Exactly! You're happy when the kid is happy. A simple toy can provide happinness for days, even weeks. For me the most suprising was the fact that you really relive your youth and that you remember things you haven't thougth about in thirty years.
Maybe we should all get together so our kids can play with each other!
