So I've learned a valuable lesson: Always back your shit up.
On the weekend, the external USB Seagate 1TB hard drive that I kept my Eels, Faith No More, Jane's Addiction [& sundries], Porno For Pyros, Regurgitator, some Tool, Psi Com, A Perfect Circle, Guns n Roses, Nirvana, Puscifer, Radiohead, Alex Lloyd, Augie March, Cloud Control, Heinz Riegler, Ministry, Not From There, Nightstick, NIN, Roger O'Donnell bootlegs & other bits and bobs on, started to have I/O errors. This means that the drive is about to just fuck up & die.
None of it was backed up.
I managed to remove the drive from the casing, buy a SATA/IDE to USB powered cable and connect it via this cable to my PC and slowly transfer the data from that drive to a 2TB that had just under 1TB free on it. It has taken me a week of dragging folder by folder over from one drive to the other and constantly having to restart the dying drive each time it errored out.
All in all I lost only a few tracks from the whole lot. Below is a list of what I lost and that I'll be trying to find on the interwebs. Oddly enough most of it is Jane's stuff that I probably got from here.
In the coming days or weeks, I may put in a request for these if I'm not able to find them around, and I may humbly ask for your assistance to fix what I fucked up.

Here are my tips or ideas that I'm going to implement to try to avoid this sort of thing in future.
1. Always back up anything that is important to you.
2. Hard drives die [so back shit up]
3. Don't leave your drives on all night.
4. If you need to seed torrents, have one drive that is used for downloading to and uploading from, until torrents die or you don't want to seed any more.
5. Test your drives every three months or so.
6. Don't buy cheap shitty drives.
7. BACK YOUR SHIT UP!!
I have also learned that I need to go out and buy some more 2TB drives to back up all the other stuff I have.

I had this happen to my mac late last year. I had days worth of music, including a lot that I'd made myself, and I had huge archives of art, including digital and semi-digital art I'd made myself, some of which had been published in magazines, etc.
I tried everything to get at my stuff, but it was really fried.
Finally I did a last-ditch thing and got Disk Warrior for about $100. This was highly recommended, and even repair people would use it as a last ditch solution in shops. It ran all night long, with my monitor on, yet the fan, like everything else, wasn't working. So I pointed a regular house fan at it.
Disk Warrior said there was no way to salvage the drive, but it was able to set up a temporary mirror, and I was able to very slowly transfer absolutely everything onto an external drive. I saved all of my data, when I really thought it might be gone forever. Best $100 I ever spent.

As for backing stuff up I have online back up as well as other means of backing stuff up on a server at the house but yeah it sucks when you have important stuff that you feel you might not ever get back.
