it's gonna suck, that's clear. i'd be willing to bet "irresistible force" is there bet foot forward. i think people are gonna look fondly at strays, after this album is released.
Now cutting all that shit we'll just talk music...

While I'm not sure how bad TGEA will be, I do agree that it will make people look back at Strays more fondly. It's a good album, just not legendary like the first two. People need to realize there were 13 years between Ritual and Strays. But Strays had some really solid stuff, only a few real duds to me like Wrong Girl.

It was a message board that we were all part of collectively.

Also, what decisions? In the 3 years or so I went on the Xiola board I only remember Larry being banned, it's not like you were moderating posts like Mike does on JA.org, there wasn't a ton of moderation. The only real changes I saw to the board were "the foreskin of jane's addiction" and "jane's addiction is dead."
Sonny banned more than just Larry, I think a good number of other regulars including myself got booted at least once for a period of time at some point - it was almost like a rite of passage.

In Sonny's defense, he's correct in that it was his site/board/whatever. Obviously, "we" the community basically made it worth visiting and posting on a daily basis but it was through his site which he always had the option of doing whatever he saw fit to do at any time. Even going back the last few years, it was obvious Sonny was going to snap the one big time and shut down the site in some dramatic fashion.

This site could tank at any time as well, you just never know.

The only surefire way to insure the community has a place to go is set up a Janes newsgroup on Usenet, install a newsreader or use Google newsgroups and pretend it's 1994. At least this community is strong enough to stick together and Hoka and Creep have the time and dedication to basically and almost painlessly give everyone a new place to converse.

I'm sure I was banned at some point over all those years. Hard to remember. I know Eric banned me multiple times from his various boards.

I suppose theoretically this is true. But that's just not the way Creep or I would handle things. Even if for some reason it was going to end we'd make sure everyone had time to prepare.

my point being it was my site. don't be under any illusions that you or anyone else had partial stock in xiola.org -- you only visited and you definitely weren't there for 10 years.

think of it as a bar. and even that's bad comparison, considering no one was paying, but me. if i close it, i don't owe you anything for coming and drinking my beer.

as for decisions, there were many decisions going on. i often PM'ed people to tell them to cool it or ignore a certain person. some one might send me a PM to complain about a person or a thread and i'd have to address that.

there is more going on that you would think and if you aren't doing it, you can't imagine how many different things it takes to keep going for that long.

updating news is fucking easy. just set google up to send you news articles about jane's addiction, perry farrell, dave navarro and yr half way there. then just repost what it sends ya. if you want you could add porno for pyros, peter distefano, eric avery, stephen perkins or various projects.

if you wanna get real detailed like mike and heidi, you friend the members of jane's addiction on facebook and twitter and wait for the contributions to roll in from various fans tagging photos or just sending them via twitter. or just do regular searches on twitter for those some subjects: jane's addiction, perry farrell, dave navarro and you'll find the odd photo or flyer.

then go to flickr and do "recent" searches for those same subjects. go to google books and search for articles containing those phrases or LA mags that came our around the dates of certain shows.

all of this stuff takes time, but it's not difficult. mike and heidi just have that drive to spend the time looking over shit. i did it once, way back and i had regular updates and it's all very rewarding.

it's petty shit on these message boards that will bog you down. i suggest you start a message board and walk in those shoes before you spout off about shit you know nothing about.

I'm not. At all. But all your posts are about how great you are and your site was, making no mention that that awesome bar you handed out all of those free drinks at would have been nothing without it's visitors.

I've given you your props. As have others. But you talk about us like we were a bunch of free loaders that you graced with a place to stay, giving no thought or consideration to the fact that without this community your site was meaningless.

i don't care how i sound. i'm just being honest. i'm not running for office. i'm not trying to win people's support. you won't see me being diplomatic here.

i'm only responding to the posts minimizing my role in xiola.org's success. as if the users were the only factor. not realizing how the users changed over the years. few were there the entire 10 years. the characters changed, the bored and myself were the constant.

as i said in another thread, xiola.org was unique and i'm not sure you can just move it somewhere else without all the pieces. very much like jane's addiction now.

you can take it however you like, i was never disrespecting the users. just saying what i've always said, it's not easy to do this by just changing the monkey in charge and the domain.

sometimes the truth sounds like a pompous asshole.

it's not like this is something we all wanted to do. you forced our hand. were we supposed to wait around for you to change your mind? you seem pretty confident that this place will fail but the board was something a lot of us enjoy so something had to be done. hoka probably never wanted to run a board again but when you did this we had to react so i asked him if he wanted to do it again. this place will be fine.

i'm not sure it's gonna fail. i was just responding the comments that it would be the same as xiola.org. just move everyone to a new place and run it like sonny did, with some improvements from creep and hoka. it minimizes what i did to keep xiola.org what it was.

so i sound like an ass who just wants credit, as if i'm not replaceable and that's not what i'm saying. i'm just saying it's not as easy as some are saying. i understand people are hurt and want to say good riddance to sonny, he wasn't important anyway, but i just think that's not true. the role i played was important.

hoka seems to be taking it personally, as if saying he can't run a forum as good as i did is something horrible to say. it's just a fact. the balance is tough to maintain. that is the reason i kept it going for so long, because i felt like i owed it to the community to do so. but at some point i had to stop for me and regardless of what this site becomes, it is the same community and as you said, it must carry on. the people saying it's gonna be easy or better are mistaken in my view.

deconstruction in particular seems to think a site runs itself. i don't think so. erik is a complete two faced dick, but i don't ever belittle his ability to run a website and copy/paste everything that ever appeared online about jane's addiction.

Everyone that was on that "bored" appreciates that it was kept running. No one I think doubts you did a lot even if some of their posts imply that. I was around since 2002-2003 time frame when it was my only link to Jane's since I was living in Honduras at the time. I saw a lot of cycles since things would get testy and die down. Personally I just would have asked for a bit more warning than the few minutes we got that night but as it was said earlier you didn't owe us anything.

I enjoyed posting there and enjoy posting here because of the people that are posting. Most of my posts there and here had nothing to do with the band, it was just the common theme that brought so many people together on that board. This board will be fine since its a good community.

Hope all is well with ya, and good to see you back around. :aoa:

Jesus fuckin christ. All the people who say this is not serious take it the most seriously....

It's an effin message board where people connect. Sonny did a great job (except were bans where concerned...should have been more) and built the empire for Jane's online.

It's moved on..................

Sonny.....enjoy yr life!

Hoka or creep......go the jounalistic route is my advice. If you can?!?

Sonny put back the interviews................it's all good. :boobs: :noclue:
