What films have made you cry?

#1 Post by Bandit72 » Wed Aug 17, 2011 12:19 am

They were discussing this on the radio this morning. I can only think of three that have had this affect on me. The Elephant Man, Watership Down (damn you Art Garfunkel) and Schindler's List.

It's weird as the audio has a lot to do with it for most people I would imagine, but audio along with visual. Audio on its own I would guess would have very little effect. I could be wrong? :noclue:

They mentioned, amongst others, The Champ and the Pixar animation 'Up'. I've never seen either of these two.

sad movies really don't make me cry.

i can't think of specific examples but i can get teary eyed with happy ending type things. (please resist and do not make a dumb "happy endings" joke)

Almost every movie makes me cry at the end. I don't know what the fuck is up with that... like, when this "ending music" begins, I get kinda teary.

But movies that have seriously made me cry:

- Dumbo (the scene where the mom reaches Dumbo from a cell)
- The Passion (specially when Mary watches his son being hit with rocks)
- Terminator 2 (when it dies)
- Up (opening scene)
- The Wall (Goodbye Blue Sky)
- Earth (ending)
- This is it (this was terrible and beautiful... I started crying with Man in the Mirror and I couldn't stop... I was sad like at a funeral, and after the credits were gone I was still crying :crying: )

No movie has ever really made me cry, but there's been a few that have at least provoked a deep emotional response:

A.I.
Schindler's List
Ponyo
Elephant Man
Pan's Labyrinth
Edward Scissorhands

When I saw A.I. in the theater, there were scores of both guys and girls streaming out after it was over bawling uncontrollably.

I remember watching this when I was 5 and I pissed my eyes out. I'm 24 now and a hardened Metal head.I just pissed my eyes out again.

The first time I saw The Notebook. But know I know the plot so no tears. Same with Steel Magnolias, Terms of endearment and Forrest Gump (when Jenny died)

But "The five people you'll meet in heaven" is immediate waterworks everytime I watch it. It isn't really a "movie" but a made for TV movie based on the book (which also made me cry when I read it)
Also I always tear up at the end of Breakfast at Tiffany's when she realized she did love "Fred" Paul Varjak.

AND INSTANT WATERWORKS and depression for the rest of the day is "The boy in the striped pajamas" :crying:

That's a movie that sticks with you. Especially as a father.

+1 Cried my eyes out, watched it with my folks, both sobbed, reminded them a lot of their deceased dads.
No one has mentioned it, but I cry every time I watch the Sound of Music. I must have watched it over 20 times. Cried every single time.
Terms of Endearment
Steel Magnolias
Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Didn't watch The Passion of Christ, but Ben-Hur and Jesus Christ Superstar made me cry.
Stand by me (always gets me)
Oh yeah Finding Nemo and Ratatouile, especially in the end, when the food critic asks him to suprise him.
Another two with Jean Reno: Deep Blue and Leo aka The Professional. Clint Eastwood's The Unforgiven, Gran Torino and Changeling
I want to see one with Ellen Page and Catherine Keener, have heard it's really sad.
