Alex Rodriguez Retiring From Baseball
Final game is Friday, to become a special advisor
Whether you love him or loathe him, one thing is for sure: Alex Rodriguez is no longer the New York Yankees problem any longer.
It feels like almost a century ago when Rodriguez was traded from the Texas Rangers to the Bronx Bombers for Alfonso Soriano, and to Yankees fans it felt like an eternity between A-Rod becoming a cornerstone of the franchise and the deliver of a World Series win.
When the team finally hoisted the Commissioner's Trophy in 2009, the same year they opened the new Yankee Stadium, it felt like everything was starting over fresh. The team was back on top, and Rodriguez, one of the most talented players of his generation, was finally a winner. This all coming just two years after his infamous opt out controversy, when Rodriguez and his agent, Scott Boras, announced during Game Four of the World Series that the all-star would not re-sign with the Yankees.
In any other situation Rodriguez, who currently sits four home runs away from 700, has been AL MVP three times, and won nearly every award, would be a sure bet for the Hall of Fame, but his suspension during the 2014 season for violating the league's Performance Enhancing Drugs policy makes that future cloudy.
His final game will be this Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays. He will serve as a special advisor and instructor for the team through December 31st, 2017.

Yeah, MLB players got a hell of a union.. guaranteed contracts, no salary caps. Guys in their prime can squeeze teams with big free agent deals then coast them out.

A-Rod "retired" like Nixon retired.
A-Rod retired to save the embarrassment that a player job hunt would demonstrate that truly no one wants him.

This is baseball related but not official MLB talk.
Massive Blue Jays Corn Maze

A family farm has created a huge Blue Jays display within their corn field.
The Hunter Brothers Farm in Florenceville-Bristol, New Brunswick made the corn maze across their six-acre field– complete with Jose Bautista’s epic bat flip, “OK BLUE JAYS,” and a nod to the Jays’ 40th season.
The family has been making corn mazes for 16 years, including themes of The Beatles, The Habs, and even Harry Potter.

Another 'L' for the Jays...

Yanks are only one game back of the second WC now. They've been really fun to watch now that we got rid of AROD and have young guys playing every day who care about winning. I still doubt we will make the playoffs, but atleast watching them is exciting now, as opposed to before the all star break when it was just a slog.

Yes, I would say on par or worse.farrellgirl99 wrote:As bad as that Yankees sweep?Artemis wrote:Another 'L' for the Jays...

Your guys have been playing really well lately. I'm going to try to catch one of the 4 Yankee games here from /923- 9/26. At the moment looks like only the Monday game has tickets available. the other games are single seats only. I will keep checking for some releases.

Even though the Jays lost today, great game!

Yup the AL East is crazy this year. Every team has its own issues so no one has been able to run away with it. Should be an exciting rest of the way.
That jay/yankees series at the end will be fun!

Re: Official MLB Thread
LA has been stupid, lottery like lucky with announcers...Vin, Chick and Bob Miller? GTFO way too lucky...the kids today are screwed... they'll never have it as good as the older generations
I sorta thought about going to a game too...but it's not like you hear him at the game or he Harry Carey's in the stretch...the broadcasts will do for me

Re: Official MLB Thread
True.
It appears KTLA is broadcasting the last games.
The penultimate night at Dodger Stadium is an appreciation night. I might go to that with a transistor radio.

That makes more sense to me
Re: Official MLB Thread
Whew, Blue Jays really needed that win tonight. I was a little stressed out watching..
So, now Jays are tied with Baltimore for wild card spot.
Gotta do it again tomorrow!

1-1 at the bottom of the 7th. The finish is going to be stressful again.

my playoff rooting hierarchy:
Cubs > Red Sox > Mets > Dodgers > Jays > Rangers > Nats > Indians > Giants > Orioles

If it happens that the Jays play Texas on Thursday, I hope we don't have a repeat of this!

If the Mets win, it would be quite the accomplishment, beating a pitcher they've never defeated, who also happens to be arguably the best post season pitcher of all time, in a win or go home game on the road where he (and the Giants as a team) have never lost..."...the Mets have never beaten Bumgarner. He is 5-0 with a 1.80 E.R.A. in six starts against them in his career."
Good luck!
