Les Bleus! I'm hoping for them and Croatia as the final. Also CR7 leaving Real is nice on the club side of things.

Not World Cup, but football(soccer)related.

Manchester City banned from European club competitions for two seasons by Uefa

Manchester City have been banned from European club competition in 2020/21 and 2021/22 after being found to have committed "serious breaches" of Uefa's club licensing and financial fair play regulations.

The reigning Premier League champions have also been fined 30m euros (£25m).( :yikes: )

The decision is subject to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Manchester City say they are "disappointed but not surprised" by the "prejudicial" decision and will appeal.

They added in a statement: "The club has always anticipated the ultimate need to seek out an independent body and process to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence in support of its position.

"In December 2018, the Uefa chief investigator publicly previewed the outcome and sanction he intended to be delivered to Manchester City, before any investigation had even begun.

"The subsequent flawed and consistently leaked Uefa process he oversaw has meant that there was little doubt in the result that he would deliver. The club has formally complained to the Uefa disciplinary body, a complaint which was validated by a CAS ruling.

"Simply put, this is a case initiated by Uefa, prosecuted by Uefa and judged by Uefa. With this prejudicial process now over, the club will pursue an impartial judgment as quickly as possible and will therefore, in the first instance, commence proceedings with the Court of Arbitration for Sport at the earliest opportunity."

I'm not sure but I think Canada has a World Cup spot now after beating Mexico yesterday??

Don't really follow soccer/football much on a regular basis but I do love the World Cup. I love seeing all the different flags on people's cars and houses, the whole city really gets into it.

Qatar though in July?

How hot is going to be ? lol

They might? I don't know if the USMNT has got a spot or not yet since they lead it. France is in, and the boy wonder is looking sharp.

This NY Times article shows the countries that have qualified so far. Canada and the USA haven't qualified yet.

The World Cup will be in November 2022, not July.

US looks halfway decent this year, maybe even good but they are very young.

Looks like they'll get in at least ... :noclue:

C'mon Canada!

On the cusp of qualifying..

Canada vs. El Salvador

Wednesday, February 2 at 9:00 PM | Live stream

With just four matches remaining, Canada sits atop the CONCACAF table and though it’s an improbable combination, it’s indeed possible that it could clinch its ticket to Qatar on Wednesday night.

Here’s what needs to happen for Canada to secure its World Cup bid on Wednesday:

Canada defeats El Salvador
Costa Rica loses or draws vs. Jamaica
United States loses to Honduras
Panama loses to Mexico

Booo Canada! :hehe:

You have to admit that something just isn't right if Canada is better than US in soccer. :noclue:

Yes, US is generally bad, but Canada should be worse!

That's true.

This Canadian team though, is really good and has really good coaching. Quite a few of the players have international experience on championship winning teams too, maybe that's one reason for the success they've been enjoying.

Whatever is in this magical mix, I hope it continues. We need something to cheer for and to be united in something for a change. At the least a break from Covid and all the other shit things going on right now.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Those players were visibly shivering...oh well, good to get experience playing in extreme weather conditions, I guess.

Canada wins again- 11 straight! We have 3 more games left to play in March.

That's why it's called FOOTball. Not soccer.

Should be an interesting tournament. Really bizarre it's in winter though. I think for England, our premier league finishes for a month 8 days before the start of the tournament.

Toronto and Vancouver will host 10 games in the 2026 World Cup. I don't know about Vancouver but for Toronto it's going to cost the tax payers about 300 million.
Or host cities include Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, New York/New Jersey as well as Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City."
