I had a couple rotten bananas about a month ago, and this was the start of corona thinking here, so I thought I should freeze these and use them later.

So I dragged them out of the freezer and defrosted them. They were black and oozing some dark liquid and slimy and disgusting...but I thought I could still make bread from them. I got a recipe and I happened to have all the ingredients (sort of.... ) I didn't have sugar but had a box full of sugar packets for coffee....it called for 2/3 cup sugar, so I emptied packets until I got 2/3 cup.....If you were wondering...that's 34 packets of sugar........ :hehe:

Anyways....first time I have ever baked bread and first time I have baked ANYTHING in over 20 years......

Turned out great. Very moist inside and crunchy/crispy crust and just right sweet. It's more a bread with hints of banana.....

Thanks Corona!!

That’s really cool! Today I baked my 4th banana bread since our lockdown began. I also cooked like the 6th pizza. It’s actually in the oven as I type this. Two kinds of cheese, corn, two types of ham, pickles, oregano.

I managed to slice my left index finger very badly cutting veg on Monday night, possibly the worst cut I've ever given myself. I patched it up pretty well and yesterday morning it was still pouring blood like it was coming out of a tap (sorry, faucet :eyes:) So I ring 111 (the non emergency line) as to whether I should go to a walk in centre or A&E. I got through pretty much immediately and the guy was very professional about everthing including asking me if it was self harm etc...Then I got call back from a GP 10 minutes later double checking what was wrong who then advised me to go straight to A&E. Pretty obvious you're probably thinking but I didn't want to burden the health service anymore by just going straight to A&E. Anyway, I arrived, got my temperature taken at the door, was given a mask and was in an out in half an hour. They couldn't glue it or stitch it as all the skin had gone too :jasper: The nurse put some special covering over the wound which has gone hard and (hopefully) it will clot within 7 days.

Anyway, our NHS is amazing, we're very lucky to have it. Hard working and professional.

I hope it’ll heal properly, mate. I don’t think you should’ve waited THAT long, but it doesn’t surprise me that you didn’t want to bother professionals who are dealing with that other little emergency...

And I can also testify that your NHS is beautiful. Don’t let those twats shred it to pieces.

The thought of all that blood made me queasy. I think I would have fainted it if that happened to me.
Good you got it taken care of and are on the mend. I wish you speedy healing!

I don't advise using a mandolin anytime soon. It's very high risk for slicing off skin.

Just took my dog for a 5am walk and saw a sign on my neighbors lawn that said: "If you see my kids outside crying and picking weeds, just keep driving. They're on a field trip." :lolol:

So the window to my truck stopped working about a month ago. It got stuck in the down position and decided to go kaput. It had been having trouble for a while and I was worried about that happening, and I couldn't pull it back up. I know people who took their cars into the dealer/shop to get replacement motors/alignment and they get fleeced with $800 to replace a motor/track.... :eyes: ......

And what do you do when you have a window stuck down and you park on the street in an industrial/not so great part of the city..........
Cover it with plywood and a towel like the rest of the shit cars parked on the street with people sleeping in them..... :scared:
So I did some youtubing and found you can pretty easily replace the motor and track if you have the right parts.
I call the auto part store and they say they can't source the part I need......great.
I decide to do my own sleuthing and found carparts.com ....highly recommended by the way! :thumb:
Found the part I needed that the store couldn't find. Bought it for $27.95.
Arrived the other day and I dissasembled the entire door/latch/lock/roll mechanism/door lights/electric/wind guard/ etc.
Guts/parts/seals/screws/panels/wires/wheels/cables all over the place! :balls:

Just put it back together with the new motor. Works like new.
Saved $800.
Just one screw that I don;t know where it goes......oh well..
Hopefully the door doesn't fall off. :hehe:

How long did it take?

Re: What made your day today?

by mockbee
Only counting labor it took about an hour and half.
Half hour to disassemble to see what the problem was, and an hour to assemble back again with the correct part.

Counting procrastination and inconvenience driving around with my door halfway disassembled and window held up by a wood stud and opening the door by finding the cable each time and pulling on the ball-bearing, and disassembling the contraption everytime I went through a drive thru to get a cheeseburger.....about a month.... :hehe: :lolol:

That time sink is why it costs 800 bucks to fix it fast...the guy for 800 already knows how to fix it and has the tools, parts, skills, xp and insurance...(yes I worked auto industry) what's great about today is the info is handy...and there are a million ways to save money if you wanna educate yourself and risk it...I did the same thing with a door handle that broke on the inside of the door panel on my mom's 350z.super expensive part only made by nissan...600 dollar job...30 minute research...call to the local "pick a part" which led to a. eBay seller...45 bucks later and another 30 minutes of time....done

What made my day today? I'm thrilled the Supreme Court tossed out Trump's DACA challenge...DACA is about as American as it gets IMHO
