Monumental loss. Her prologues are the most complex, yet simple (and irrefutable) declarations of humanity. She taught me how to think before any other writer. Woke, before woke.

Years ago, I was in Princeton NJ for "Communiversity" day. I was with family including my young son. I went hunting for the Humanities department. It was a small, square shaped building where I essentially broke in from interior quad...It was deserted. I was hoping to find her, hoping for a glimpse, or maybe a brief introduction. She wasn't there of course, but the rest of the day I felt better, lighter, and stronger for having been in her space.

Couldn't agree more. Her prose has been a huge inspiration to me multiple times in life.

I have no familiarity with rap past the 90s...... and haven't ever explored it, don't really know where to start. But damn, this just hooked me immediately.

RIP

RIP, Regis Philbin 88

Apparently, he died of natural causes according to his family. I didn't realize he was that old.

^I didn't watch his morning talk show, but whenever I saw him on David Letterman it was always a fun show. He was hysterical.

I dunno if I'd say "RIP," maybe more like "BIH" to Phil Spector.

He caught Covid in a California prison serving a sentence for murdering a woman he picked up at the Hollywood House of Blues, bringing her back to his place and depending on the story, either purposely or accidently shot her in the face. He was sick enough he was transferred to a local Hospital (all in SoCal are totally overwhelmed with Covid patients right now) getting treated for severe symptoms, was well enough to go back to jail and a week or so later, symptoms got bad again and he cratered.

Probably the ultimate example of separating an artist as a person from their work. On one hand, he was a landmark producer who was extremely influential in the sound of many key albums and bands in the late 60's and 70's.

On the other hand, dude was an absolute scumbag psycho creep, numerous examples of physical and psychological abuse against people, especially his wife Ronnie Bennett of the Ronettes who he kept a virtual prisoner in his mansion for 4 years, pulled loaded guns (in some cases, firing off rounds) on everyone from The Ramones to John Lennon and Leonard Cohen. You read his history, it's no surprise he eventually wound up shooting and killing somebody.

I never heard what Spectors defense was and accidents like that i'm sure have happened, but you shouldn't be waving a loaded gun pointed at someones face

Sad to see Marvin Hagler pass away. Can't remember a boring fight of his, and he didn't duck anyone. That first round against Tommy Hearns is legendary.
