Hey y'all. I'm at a week long conference in SF this week for the first time. Any can't miss food/site suggestions?

It's been eight years since I've lived in SF but I visit semi regularly.

Here is a thread from about 10 years ago that I think would still be valid; especially the sites, if not the restaurants as well.

http://aintnoright.org/viewtopic.php?f= ... sco#p85153

During my last visit last month, it was pretty sad venturing through my old neighborhood around lower Nob Hill/Polk St. The majority of shops/restaurants were boarded up and graffitied. Just a couple generic bars were left. Heading up Polk towards Russian Hill, more shops were open and populated with the uber rich set. SF is a really gutted city at the moment. Very very poor and very very rich, not really a middle to speak of.
But still well worth exploring! Once I got to the water at Aquatic Park, the walk to the GG Bridge along the Marina remains spectacular.

Where are you staying? SoMa?

Last time I went to SF last year I took the ferry and when I got back to my car the window was smashed. I didn't have anything in the car so nothing was taken. The car wasn't technically in SF but still...

Parts of SF are pretty rough now.

Gotta leave the windows down and doors unlocked.

Luckily don't have a car here! My dad lived in SF for 7-8 years in late 70s/early 80s, he used to tell me a story about a homeless chap who broke into his car 3-4 times to sleep in it. He said the cops wouldn't do anything about it, so he made a deal with the guy that he could sleep in the car as long as he stopped smashing the back window and get out when it was time for my dad to go to work in the morning. He said they had this arrangement for about 4-5 months until the guy disappeared.

I've thought about catching a Warriors game while here!

I think we're going to hit up the Wharf tomorrow.

Creep and Hoka, see story from my dad above. Guess some things haven't changed.

Don't know if you have time but if you're staying around Union Square, id suggest taking a walk up Grant through the heart of Chinatown till you hit Columbus where you'll find City Lights bookstore (epicenter of the Beats) then head down Columbus through North Beach to the Wharf.
It should still be crab season usually you can find a good stand to get fresh crab around Jefferson/Taylor.
Probably 45 min walk, but a bunch of great sites along the way. If the sun is setting head a little farther to aquatic park and watch the swimmers in the bay, with alcatraz/Marin headlands in the distance.

Tenderloin at 2 in the AM should be pretty exciting.

Check that out.

Haha, that is true. Especially with how low my tolerance probably is these days.
